  2. Let me get this straight ... you're coming to the band's board to ask for a copy of a show? Their next project is going to be a concert CD. What say you wait until you can pay for the music?
  3. The woman made faces at people as they came out of the john? WTF was the matter with her?
  4. They aren't European, but Cadence has always been the best option I've found for Venus discs. About $22 per disc - if you get enough, maybe shipping won't up that number by too much. Thanks! I may try them some day (I know they got a good reputation and all, but I think I only used them once or twice so far...). Still pretty steep 22$ a disc! (Is that US$ or Canadian$?) that's $US. They are located in upstate NY, probably not far from the Canadian border, but still in the US.
  5. I'm one who chose 'something else' for most annoying. Did not think any of the options were really annoying. I'm more concerned by other aspects of the technology such as the drop in quality of news reports because of the technical developments (things have to move instant fast which prevents the reports from keeping the proper perspectives) or the advance of chemical enhancers that boost sports performances, among other 'improvements'... OK. Thanks for the clarification.
  6. I've never heard an actual reason why "The Web" and "The Internet" are not interchangeable terms. They certainly are interchangeable to the general public. So please enlighten me.

  8. Last installment for now of the Truth Patrol: THE FACTS: Schilling WAS NOT a free agent. No offer was made to Schilling to secure his services; an offer was made to the D-Backs; after the trade was accepted, Theo convinced Schilling to approve the trade and signed him to an extention. THE FACTS: Roger Clemens "retired" after the 2003 season. The Yankees made no decision to "let him walk" but simply took him at his word and did not even offer salary arbitration. Clemens "unretired" after Pettite signed with Houston. Truth Patrol signing off til the next time. The real truth: Nowhere did I say that Schilling was a free agent. Obviously frustrated by my superior knowledge, you pathetically try to misquote me on an irrelevant issue in order to "prove" me wrong. My point stands: The Yankees were interested in getting Schilling from the D-Backs the same year that Boston was, and they decided to let Boston be the highest bidder. Boston was determined to offer more, and the Yankees deemed Schilling not worth it. A franchise with unlimited resources could have have made a cash offer to Arizona that they would not have refused, had the Yankees really wanted Schilling. Truth Patrol Back Yet Again. THE FACTS Any D-Back or Yankee fans knows how this trade happened and can confirm the following. The D-Backs had NO INTEREST in what the Yankees were offering. George Steinbrenner HIT THE ROOF in the wake of the trade, as was reported throughout the NY media around Thanksgiving of 2003. So the idea that he would have been a Yankee "had the Yankees really wanted Schilling" is complete nonsense. Truth Patrol Signing off Til Next Time.
  9. Truth Patrol Back Again: THE FACTS: Nothing about the actual conditions stated in the prediction. Truth Patrol signing off.
  10. Glad to hear it worked.
  11. I think the person who voted that the Internet is most annoying should explain, as should the 4 who chose "something else" for most annoying.
  12. Truth Patrol Reporting In: THE FACTS: Through the end of June (the last game before he started reporting back pain), Tim Wakefield made 17 starts and threw 105 innings, or in his average start he pitched into the seventh inning. Twelve of his seventeen starts were "quality starts". His ERA was 3.86. This would rank him in the top 15 in the league right now, and even after his injury led his ERA to jump to 4.14, his ERA still ranks in the top 20. Interesting that you should compare him to Jaret Wright, for it was Torre who flipped Wright with Wang, because he knew that back to back 5 inning pitchers were killing his bullpen. Wakefield was the polar opposite of Wright, averaging two full innings more per start. Wakefield provided the exact same benefit to his team as Wang did: a pitcher who pretty much guaranteed that his bullpen would get some rest. The loss of Wakefield led directly to the over-working of a bullpen which had issues all season and led to its catastrophic failure from the second half onward. Truth Patrol signing off til next time.
  13. They did not become a matter of popular use until the last 15 years or so, and far fewer for cell phones. The time frame was given based upon when they became a fact of daily existence.
  14. Did you come here just to belittle people about baseball? As his "bitch" I'd like to say "it sure looks that way." Uh Dan, anytime someone disagree with you about anything regarding baseball, you immediately tear into a personal vendetta against them. You ripped MartyJazz a new one earlier in this thread because his predictions didn't jibe with your knowledge. You're constantly belittling JazzyPaul about his White Sox, for no other reason other than they had the nerve to win the World Series after they had offended the baseball gods way back when. You've belittled my Rangers and I've taken it all in stride because I know what a mediocre team they are. But God forbid anyone insult your beloved Red Sox, especially based on what you know. Heatwave hasn't been very nice to you, but I don't blame him. You weren't exactly welcoming to him when he first started posting here. Jeez, he says something negative about the Sox and you take it as a personal attack. Lighten up, fercryinoutloud! So what if it was baseless? SO FUCKING WHAT???? If the Red Sox are THAT important to you, you need to get a life. And I know I've raised your blood pressure by posting this which will no doubt cause you to refer to me as "dipshit," "asshole," etc etc etc. Be my guest. You've already called me (and the other baseball-loving posters on this thread) a "fucker," so, really, I don't care anymore. You're not the victim here, Dan, so quit acting like you can't understand why someone's pissing on your shoes after you've shit in his backyard. One, I've never ripped Marty a new one. I would never do that to someone I know personally. Two, the phrase "so long, fuckers" was lifted from a movie and I presumed that people understood the reference, particularly when I added a frame from the movie as reference. Lastly, I would never tear into you, Al, because again, I "know" you and have a decent level of respect for you. Notice how you didn't for a second even try to respond to your belittling of the defending world champions. Don't worry, Dan, I forgive you. I knew you did, Paul. And as a way of atonement, I'll make no comments whatsoever when you follow up a championship by not even making the playoffs.
  15. I wasn't trying to say that converting to wav files would result in losing anything, I was really trying to say that it wouldn't make them less lossy. I'm not certain about your point as far as MP3 files burning to CD. If you burn it as a "data" disc, you get an MP3 file, and these may not be recognized by some players. However, my program, Nero, burns MP3s as audio discs, and these are recognized by audio CD players. The program specifically says that mp3 and WMA files are converted to audio cd files in the burning process. Bottom line, since Skid has suggested that you need to go ahead and convert to wav to burn a CD, if you download the free version of goldwave (goldwave.com), you can open an MP3, and then choose "Save As" to turn it into a wav file. But I would make sure about your burning program before you go to that trouble. If it is set to burn an audio file and it recognizes MP3s as valid, then you can bet that you are going to get a disc that will play on any CD player.
  16. You don't want to extract an MP3 to a wav file. MP3s are condensed and lossy formats that can't be saved by returning them to wav. Your CD burner should recognize MP3 files and you can just burn them direct to disc.
  17. That is the album House Warmin' and is one of my favorite McGhee albums. Definitely not any sort of pre-existing backing track, just warm, very bluesy and soulful blowing by all concerned. Highly recommended. Funny you should say that - I think of it as one of my favouriteAmmons albums! MG that's funny - didn't they keep Ammons' name off the album because he was signed to Prestige at the time? And if you have the LP anyway - what makes you think that the rhythm tracks are separate? I never heard the rhythm tracks as separate, though I'm not sure I'd always be able to recognise it. I simply thought, knowing Winley's rep, "I wonder if...", y'know? Because there's this rhythm section with what are maybe made-up names. MG I see ... but it was originally an Argo LP. Never knew how it got to be a Winley LP but unless there's a difference between the two of them, I don't think Winley did anything to it. (And I actually bought both LPs once - the Winley name threw me - so I can confirm that they didn't do anything to the tracks.)
  18. Thanks for pointing that out. Just took a closer look at the graphic.
  19. I was watching an episode of Mad About You where Paul and Jamie get separated and the entire episode is based on their inability to communicate with each other, and I realized that probably within two or three years of the episode being broadcast, it became completely out of date, as no one ever has such a problem since the rise of cell phones. So that got me thinking about the most important, life-altering technological advances that have happened recently, and also about which one is most aggravating. I bet a lot of people will identify cell phones as the thing they couldn't live without, while also identifying them as the most annoying (for the lack of privacy in public spaces and the inability to have any "down time" when tethered to a phone).

  22. Dan... I'm in the States and the buyer is in southern EU. Providing tracking was to be nearly $30 for this rather than air letter post and was offered as an expensive alternative. Other international shipments were made on the same day and a pack to northern EU just arrived last week ... nearly two months! for Air? Hopefully I've got the buyer to sit tight and since I have several hundred transactions in the past seven years I'm looking like I know what I'm doing. OTOH you never know when you're being taken for a ride. That's definitely true, the guy could just be screwing with you to try to get his money back. If tracking costs that much, I'd definitely require insurance on all international shipments.

  24. There's no question that New Jersey has some very pretty areas. The problem is that so many people experience the state only by traveling through it on I-95 (the NJ Turnpike) and no one can say that the view from that patch of road is particularly attractive. And that's before you get to the fuel tank farm around Newark.
