  1. Playing via Spotify on BT speaker and no issues with SQ…a quick comparison with the bandcamp album and it sounded the same. Doesn’t sound live and the bass isn’t recessed; piano fine as well. Sounds like a pretty decent studio recording actually.
  2. Looking at Walker’s bio on his website, he got into jazz after touring with the Fatback Band. Looks like he’s really into studying the roots of the music and no doubt learned of Brooks being from Fayetteville. NC is the birthplace of quite a few jazz legends as most on this board are probably aware…Other than that I’m not seeing any other connection. Need to check this out though.
  3. My Sanders playlist in this past week includes Solomon’s Daughter With A Heartbeat Save Our Children Message from Home Moon Child Love In Us All Thembi Jewels of Thought I’m enjoying all of them. With A Heartbeat is a Laswell collaboration and it’s the only one I didn’t really connect closely with. I think it had more to do with the production style rather than musical issues though. Probably will revisit at some point. Miles’ dig - if it had any musical target - probably included some aspect of the musical theme and feeling/vision in Sanders’ playing being consistent and I could see someone of Miles’ mind having enough of that after a bit. Sometimes brilliance like Miles had could be a curse I guess.
  4. Listening to and enjoying a lot of his records this week after hearing the news. There is a lot to love. He definitely played what he felt and maybe that’s what connects him to a broad audience beyond the jazz universe.
  5. I’d rather listen to PnBRock’s entire album output over any Dead live show or album. For real. Bringing it back to the OP, PnB ain’t bad at all. There’s a good bit of Drake influence on the lyrical structure and delivery but damn, he does it MUCH better than Drake. He was a talented cat, and listening to these tunes now really bring his tragic death into focus. He definitely had an artistic vision albeit way outside this board’s demo including myself.
  6. New Jack is the fucking shit. Never heard of the artist in question but RIP.
  7. Looks like Tyner to me
  8. All 3 of these are incredible. This one made the rounds of some weird horror movie social media pages I follow and it’s on my list to watch. Never seen it and it’s almost like a “lost” movie at this point.

3 is Milestones but I don’t know by whom 5 - pretty sure this is the Andrew Hill with strings BN session. My favorite track so far… 6 - Man, this is a good one too. No guesses… 7 - 70s Sanders or Tyner type of vibes. Nice tune as well 9 - Afro Blue but not sure who 10 - venturing out into a different style with good results. No guesses 11 - Familiar tenor style not sure who though 14 - Not sure either but absolutely love it Thanks for putting this together!
  10. June works for me but in the spirit of inclusiveness, if it works better for someone who otherwise wouldn’t be able to participate then I’m up for being mobile.
  11. Big news! Thanks for sharing
  12. Great from start to finish. See Baba Joe is incredible.
  13. Fucking awful.
  14. Anybody can make any claim online in an anonymous forum, “gear profiles” be damned (lol at that asinine rule). I’m not in the market for most of these Tone Poets but I have a few. While it’s a shame some of them have random defects I do like how BN is featuring some of these albums and weaving them into their contemporary stable. They’re at least profiling some legendary musicians and albums that remain relevant and should never be forgotten.
  15. Great write up and tribute. Thanks for posting that.
  16. I don’t know that one but that Spotify gem feature worked for me yesterday as I found Rickey Kelly’s 1979 album My Kind of Music. Great album from an artist I was completely unaware of. There’s definitely good and bad with streaming but these finds are always good.
  17. Never listened to the Farmer Foolish Memories album before but streaming it this morning and it’s indeed a great record.
  18. I remember Peter Jennings announcing on ABC news the passing of Milt Jackson. They did a brief obit for him that included snippets of his live playing. At the time I didn’t listen to jazz and didn’t know who Milt was but for whatever reason that segment stuck with me. Decades later when I finally came around to this music, Bags and the MJQ were some of the first albums I checked out.
  19. I like them but they tend to fade into the background after a while. Which is fine because there’s worse backgrounds to be had
  20. I can’t stand folks whining about shit that doesn’t matter. Giving guidance, advice and dropping knowledge and real critiques are one thing but complaining about records is ridiculous. I can’t watch more than a few seconds and then I’m done.
  21. Thanks for the tips on BN-ish big band records. And that’s what we do anyway. Take screenshots of what we’re streaming and share them back and forth (easier than sharing through the app in my experience) Except when it’s not streaming, and then we share YT links if at all possible. Jazz has a lot that isn’t streaming, even some BNs, at least “officially”…like that Harold Land Take Aim that’s on a weird streaming-only comp. I’m sure there’s others but the bread and butter releases are all there across every one of them.
  22. John Patton Got a Good Thing Goin’ Tina Brooks Back to the Tracks Horace Parlan On the Spur of the Moment Bobby Hutcherson Montara AB & the JMs Mosaic And that’s neglecting a whole lot of great albums. Picking 5 is so difficult. I’ve got a friend who prefers big bands so which BN big band albums rate highly? Part of Morgan’s Delightfulee ain’t bad, but what else?
  23. I love the fact that outside of pony tails and wrap around sunglasses I have absolutely no idea what you’re referencing here. I’m looking forward to the entries
  24. Florence of Florence & the Machine and Billy Eilish are definitely included as targets of this spoof
