  1. Live recording from 2014: Alto Saxophone – Mette Rasmussen Baritone Saxophone – Cath Roberts Bass – Eero Tikkanen Drums – Johnny Hunter (4) Electric Guitar, Composed By – Anton Hunter Tenor Saxophone – Sam Andreae Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Simon Prince (2) Trombone – Richard Foote (2), Seth Bennett Trumpet – Graham South, Nick Walters First listen and enjoying it. 👍
  2. I've never seen that Baker album before and am surprised to see it's got 32 different releases/reissues; although no legit LP since the Japanese '91 issue. After that, a slew of gray market issues. For whatever reason, this album sells apparently. Wondering if sales figures plus "rescuing" this potentially popular album from Andorra with a proper reissue are key motivators?
  3. Getting to this one late and that's too bad because it's a smoker of a mix. Lots of these tracks are burners. Songs 2, 3, & 4 really stand out in sequence. Track 5 is good and quite familiar. Seven is a bit Coltrane-ish in composition but that's not a critique as it's a nice tune. No guesses to share, just wanted to chime in and let you know how much I enjoyed this. Thanks!
  4. Excellent post, totally agree.
  5. Lost Boys is the shit. Probably the most enduring vampire movie of the 80s.
  6. I'm not arguing SQ between JP and TP pressings, but from what I've seen online and in person, prices of Kings have dropped a bit if a TP also exists. I like them both FTR. I'll definitely side with TP over a Toshiba however.
  7. Some current pop is easy listening to me. Soft synth beats with some 80s retro style mixed in, a la Weeknd & Taylor Swift, maybe some Bieber too. Not much in terms of "bands" in a traditional sense come to mind.
  8. Not sure that meme really hits its target. BN's reissues among the 80/Classic/TP editions has helped bring prices down on those Japanese pressings. And "flawless" is a strong word lol. They've also arguably helped elevate jazz reissues across the board, and possibly helped people - "hipsters" among them - get into jazz. Which is a good thing. I'd say that the BN reissue program has been a net positive.
  9. This and the other post like it are probably bots
  10. Nice. FTW is an acronym = for the win. The bass and horns on 6 make the track for me. Did you edit or find a shorter version for that Teena Marie track? I'm actually not familiar with any gospel tune by her.
  11. Late on first impressions but without reading the rest of what's here just yet: 1: sounds like the Staple Singers but I'm not sure 2: some interesting and familiar licks from the guitarist but I can't place it 3: sounds like the Purim/Corea stuff from the 70s but prob not them 4: Funky but no idea 5: Mathis' Maria 6: More funky groove. Bass & the horns FTW 7: Another freedom tune - not sure who this is. Got to be from the 70s...? 8: Nice segue track with a totally different feel. Like how it takes its time. No guesses 9: Sounds like Pharoah Sanders - not sure which track though. McBee on bass per the announcer 10: I'll guess Billy Bang on violin. 11: Well crafted song. Cinematic almost. 12: Interesting and original christmas song. 13: Callier's Alley Wind song. Good stuff 14: Sounds a little like Teena Marie but not sure Thanks for the tunes! Went nicely with some morning coffee.
  12. Thanks for this one. Great songs!
  13. Funny how jazz does this. May this be the first of many awakenings my dude.
  14. These are streaming on YT music and so I would assume across all other streaming platforms. Fantastic line ups. Can't wait to check these out.
  15. So Blackstone Legacy was on Contemporary and its not even being whispered about in this recent Contemporary reissue campaign? Perfect record for that... Moontrane came a little later on Muse and an LP of that isn't easy to find either. No vinyl reissues since the 70s. That one's on Muse - don't think anyone legit is reissuing from that label these days - or are they?
  16. Picked up this Real Gone Jazz/Dusty Groove collab reissue CD at Real Gone Jazz's CD sale (this one was $5...and all Black Jazz CDs are $6 if ya need to know). First Sonny Fortune appearance on record. Rudy recorded this one in '65.
  17. My bad on that. I used discogs and searched Chico Hamilton but didn't include Chico Hamitlon Quintet, et al. which discogs doesn't automatically aggregate (frustrating - streaming platforms dont do that either). So yes, every Chico Hamilton leader date on Impulse! is worthwhile for sure.
  18. Never listened to that one before so just did based on your rec and damn - mighty fine. Thanks for the lead!
  19. Anyone know any background information on this release? Looks to be new but I can't find any info on label, personnel, etc. anywhere. Streaming selections available online and tracklist includes live performances from '82, '89, '90, & '93. So far the '82 track I'm playing, "Serena Sugar" is excellent. Definitely want to know more about this one.
  20. Good news. I dig Byrd and the Mizell Bros.
  21. Drumfusion playing now. Garnett Brown is on this one too Edit to add: it's excellent. Thanks for the tip! Edit #2: looks like this has never been reissued on vinyl nor CD. I hope I'm wrong.
  22. Thanks for the feedback! For Chico, there's definitely more experience on this board than I carry but I spent several weeks deep diving into his catalog earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Hard to go wrong but my favorites were: All 3 Impulse! albums The Master on Stax Nomad (seriously good) And then his post-2000 records: Heritage Believe Twelve Tones of Love I'm betting all of those Joyous Shout records are worthwhile actually.
  23. Listening to #2's album now...it's OK.
