  1. Would make a good box set then. Probably not Mosaic's scope these days but the sound and style did remind me of those Bee Hive albums.
  2. Listening to the Jacquet Black & Blue album Jacquet's Street this morning and loving it. Anyone know who's doing all the grunting and hollering on that recording? Is it Oliver Jackson? Was this the Black & Blue label that Mosaic was doing a set of? Indeed. I have and love a couple of those Basie Bunch CDs and they're excellent.
  3. I don't have enough of either of these labels. From Tribe I have the Pure Pleasure LP reissue of Nurnen and the Tribe reissue of Message From. Only one Rudolph Johnson Black Jazz album.

    Lol. Y yo tambien
  5. Ha, yeah I can't do it. I know it's considered a classic and many like it but it just ain't for me.
  6. Never been able to make it through this one
  7. Anyone have recs on classical pieces that use the harmonium?
  8. Ha, man I'm no expert and I know nothing of Quigley or this particular genre. So from that perspective I see a clean cut, blue-eyed white guy from pre-Civil Rights USA looking up in hopeful optimism, perhaps to that Celestial Hillbilly Heaven. There's probably design concepts about left-to-right, angle, etc. involved as well.
  9. Secret language of intent = Semiotics. It's been decoded and all the marketing gurus live and breathe it.
  10. Despite the "Orchestra" included in the title, this is actually small group swing:
  11. Epic doesn't make money by playing nice.
  12. Well, they know their audience I guess
  13. Outstanding trio record although I'm not a fan of the Fred Schwab cover art in terms of its connection to this album. Its coldness betrays the much warmer connection between the musicians and how they produced something really beautiful here. LaRoca adds something special. Makes me want to check out subsequent Friedman albums for sure. Looks like he recorded pretty regularly up to his passing in 2016.
  14. Did I read $200 per ticket correctly? Wow.
  15. The Troll was actually the good guy here I think
  16. Good call on the member list.
  17. Not sure how to get it referenced in the drop down here
  18. Anyone know how to tag the user who has Cyrillic letters as their ID?
  19. Fixed the schedule.
  20. (Starts searching apple music for Dickey Wells...)

1 - Sounds like a Getz/Baker collab? Sounds like something they'd have done and the trumpet seems to stay around that Baker sweet spot. 2 - Gimme eh? Hmmmm.... Medley as the intro segues into Summertime where the trumpeter shows big time chops. Wow. So is this Ella and Pops with the chops? 3 - Yusef maybe? Or could it be Frank Wess? Good song. 4 - Weston? This intro section is getting a little long-toothed...bass solo is way more interesting. Hope it's not Weston or anyone I dig because the piano kind of drags this song. 5 - Another good bass solo. I hear a guitar comp but I'm guessing they don't solo? How about that. 6 - I don't know this song but I like it. Spaulding or Wess on flute? 7 - Distinctive guitar but I can't place it. Or is it guitars? Effects are substantial. Al Foster drumming maybe? 8 - Title is obvious but not sure about the singer or group. Tuba makes me think of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. 9 - Almost a Jamaican or Caribbean arrangement on those horns. No clue as to who this is.
  22. Was it weed or something heavier?
  23. No worries @Pim. You gotta take care of what's important. Hate to hear that and hope he's able to recover. To edit the above calendar for the remainder of the year, does it look like this?
