  1. my first impression of this new album is: "overproduced". Lots of background singing and big drum sound. Probably would be better more acoustic-ish, stripped down.
  2. Jay-C Mell-E-Cee
  3. Scott, get it @ bestbuy. Last week it came with a free disc of acoustic versions of 4 of the songs, and I'm pretty sure that deal is still on. As for Mellencamp, I always thought his best was Lonesome Jubilee/Big Daddy. I really liked the folkish textures. Not sure if I could stand Joan Baez even for one duet, so I'm wavering on this one.
  4. the pictures are great. Now I know what some of those instruments look like!
  5. Wasn't that announced in 2000? It took 5 years for that box to appear
  6. I got it a few years ago from Dusty Groove for about $45 or so. It's large-sized, a coffee-table kind of book, with various interviews and pictures. Seems like most of the interviews were done in the mid to late 90s. There may be 90 pages total, half of those pictures, with large-type print. Expensive but the interviews are interesting and the pictures are great. If you're a big fan then I'd say get it.

    Neil Young

I'm not a big Neil Young fan, but I bought this disc after hearing many good things about it. It is excellent, strong playing and a tight band. One of the guys in the band died a few months after the gig and this disc show how much he contributed to the band. Highly recommended Actually it wasn't a few months, it was about 2.5 years later when Danny Whitten died from a heroin OD. He was about to rejoin Neil with his new band the Stray Gators (the Harvest band) for a tour. He was so out of it that he wasn't contributing anything so Neil sent him back home with some cash for a plane ticket which he instead used for the heroin that he eventually overdosed on.

    ALICE COLTRANE PASSES

Was this sudden? She certainly looked fine, seemed to be healthy when I saw her in Ann Arbor in September. Wow.

    MICHAEL BRECKER

    wow. Terrible and shocking news.
  10. what do they consider "jazz"?
  11. Fripp-y, I mean, Happy Birthday!

    Anthony Braxton

So no Jarman? Who do I start pestering with emails for a live disc of this tour?
  13. 256 kbps here
  14. Legacy also releases new material.
  15. It's gotta be me then. I'm just not hearing it. This is the reason I got the Weather Report box in the recent BMG sale because I need to re-listen to this music and find what I've been missing. I just haven't been able to connect the later, funky stuff with the early, acoustic (and to me, better) Miles-ish Weather Report. They don't even sound like they are playing the same kind of music
  16. the Layla box set, which made me get my second one as soon as I could just a few months later, which was the Allman Brothers box set
  17. What happened? I hope she's alright!
  18. My final 5.99 order is Bill Frisell/Ron Carter/Paul Motian
  19. Much slower. I still haven't gotten an order I placed for the Trio Beyond the first week of Dec., but I got the Weather Report box from BMG in less than a week.
  20. I am starting to save for this box set right now
  21. I thought I had turned the auto-sync off, but it still erased the corresponding album from the iPod after I deleted it from iTunes. I will have to check that and try it again. Thanks for the suggestion!
  22. I wonder if any iPod experts here can clarify something for me. It seems that I can't delete a disc from my hard drive without it also being erased from my iPod the next time I plug it in. I thought maybe manually synching it would avoid this, but it didn't. I don't want to keep all of these albums on my hard drive; that's part of the reason I got the iPod. What am I doing wrong?
