I wouldn't know what to do if I ever had a chance to talk to him. I'd be afraid of the withering lectures he'd go off on if I asked him for an autograph or about future Crimson plans. I'm happy just to keep buying collector's club CDs off his website, and to read his usually funny and mostly interesting diaries. From what I understand, Adrian Belew is much more approachable anyway
-
Are you kidding about the autograph? How did you get him to do it? Did he lecture you first? You should have taken his picture just as he handed it back to you!

who's on it? his recent bands from 2-3 years ago?

It's still an intriguing idea-what would life be like here without it?
-
This was a good idea. Why not try it for a month? I dont see what making it visible for members accomplishes. I've never understood why people come to a jazz board to discuss politics anyway

Yeah, I was going to once I had a better idea on the job possibilites, but since this one was already going......

that's why the Simpsons and Seinfeld were so great. Parody! -
perfect timing for this thread, for me. I am debating whether to pursue a job opportunity in the Chicago area (one phone interview so far, which went well). The company is located in Waukegan. What I'm wondering is, how close is that to the action in Chicago? It looks like it is metro Chicago. I doubt public transportation runs that far away from the downtown, so is driving from Waukegan (if we were to live there- we could always live elsewhere and I could commute if I got the job) to downtown Chicago a total bitch, i.e. traffic? From the map that I looked at, there isn't a direct interstate connecting Waukegan to Chicago. From the few realtor sites we've looked at, home prices anywhere closer to Chicago are outrageous (although not that much worse than Ann Arbor, actually). Anyone in Chicagoland care to comment? Where should we be looking if we were to move to the area? Oh yeah, we have a 2 yr old and another due in May, so if anyone here knows anything about schools, etc, any comments could help. Thanks!

Entire That's not what it says on the coupon. It says, "One coupon per purchase, per customer." Yes, exactly. One coupon per purchase. Doesn't matter if that purchase is one or 20 items. I bought 2 CDs on one coupon on Friday, then went back in line 5 minutes later and bought a DVD with a second coupon (I forgot to get it the first time through)

he was doing popular songs, same as he was doing in the 50s and early 60s. Much less interesting and not for me, but not so surprising

Yep, I got it today and I think it's great (after two listenings). It is definitely quieter than some of the others that I've heard, but the sound quality is as good as or better than the ECM discs, and I really like the different sized groupings for each tune. I'll be listening to this one a lot in the near future. By the way, what is a "percussion cage"? Roscoe is credited with playing it.

Ornette with two bassists and his son drumming, Hill Auditorium Keith Jarrett trio, also Hill Auditorium Wayne Shorter's current group, Michigan Theater Herbie Hancock's quartet, Michigan Theater Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, Michigan Theater (Herbie plucking the piano strings with Wayne soloing on the soprano!)

I am going to try to go to this concert tomorrow night. If there's good seats still available. Detroit isn't worth going to if you can't at least get decent seats -
I just recieved Sam Rivers- Contours 2 days ago as my Feb monthly selection. No problem, no backorder
-
Yeah, I've ordered from them a # of times. No problems. I actually have all of the upcoming Miles Davis reissues on pre-order from them, for about $7.25 or so each, with no shipping. I'm not sure if it is still applicable, but if you are using a Visa, type in SHOPVISA in the coupon code to get an extra 15% off. It worked for me when I placed my order in January. I've heard from others that SHOPMASTERCARD works with that type of card, too.

Ole can't be recommended enough. Put me down for a recommendation also. I have the Coltrane Deluxe, and I like the extra material a lot. Not as repetitive as the Ballads Deluxe; and the A Love Supreme Deluxe is absolutely a must, if you are choosing the Deluxe route next. Oh, don't forget the European Tours box on Pablo. The sound isn't the greatest but the performances are always fascinating. Nice to hear them do Blue Train during this period, too.

Happy birthday!

why wasnt this on the "complete" box set???? Frustrating, but still exciting to be able to hear more. One more thing for me to pre-order through your site, Alan. Thanks!
