  1. listening to disc 1-sound is ok, certainly not harsh/unlistenable.
  2. just arrived. Avid jazz-UK based is the label. Anyone else got this?
  3. ordered today: The Big Shorty Rogers Express/Shorty Rogers And His Giants/Wherever The Five Winds Blow/Chances Are It Swings
  4. loved his autobiography especially the sections re Ellington and Basie. highly recommended!
  5. If you've seen Allen Toussaint with a full orchestra at jazz fest in New Orleans, you have seen the master at his best. Nothing else comes close.
  6. Clef/Verve set arrived yesterday. After to listening to discs 3 and 4, I'm extremely pleased I added this one to my Roulette sets. The small group material is a wonderful contrast to the big band which gets hotter and hotter as you listen. Anyone on the fence should grab this one. Joe joins the band tonight
  7. yep, listed on the out of print page.
  8. ok ok enabled again Count Basie will be in the da house next weeek
  9. the Evans show is excellent
  10. I emailed Marc Myers who wrote the liner notes to ask about whether this edition was newly remastered. Stay tuned. Marc's reply: yes re re-mastering. kevin reeves at sterling sound.
  11. new release of Adderley/Evans classic Know what I mean.
  12. Happy to continue to support the band via cd purchase but a FLAC download is ok as well.
  13. Roy Eldridge and Dizzy-Disc 3 from the Eldridge set followed by Disc 4 from the Dizzy set. Trumpet perfection!
  14. waitress comped me for the second set so there was big el tippo for her. I agree they don't push drinks-usually you can get one per set and they always seem to be out of something I order. There are plenty of places to eat beforehand-I like Creme and Bistro Le Bonne.
  15. Who was having more fun? The musicians or the audience? Hard to say but there's no doubt this band lived up to their name putting on a bop clinic with each member showcasing their considerable proficiency on their particular instrument. To me, the winner by a slim margin was Billy Hart with his propulsive percussion pushing the band to peak after explosive peak but, again, everyone was at their best-kudos to Billy Harper. I saw both sets Saturday night and that was a good thing as the two shows were completely different material wise. Bohemian Caverns is a great jazz room period with a wonderful vibe.
  16. I can't get the stream to play the audio through my HT receiver (have to use the TV speakers) evidently because it is an older model and doesn't have ARC. Is there a workaround for this?
  17. Bill Evans at his best, impeccably recorded. Highly recommended. The disc 1 duets with Eddie Gomez are mesmerizing.
  18. lots of sets on ebay. you might be able to get it for under $500. I'm getting Vol 2 for $12 from amazon at this point but will keep my eyes open if I see a deal on the set. I have so much Dead anyway
