  1. probably Borboletta-Santana in HS. Early college favs were Intensity-Charles Earland and the Crusaders' albums. Pat Metheny as well. Stan Kenton's big band at an outdoor festial before his accident made a monster impression on me as a freshman.
  2. may try to get to Roy Hargrove and opening act Marshall Keys who is a terrific player in his own right. June 6 at The Hamilton (very nice space). Anyone else attending shows?
  3. all music gets dissed a lot but I find it useful. Yes, some reviewers are better than others but the price is right.
  4. Nationals keep cruising along. One can only imagine what will happen when all their injured players return. Gio Gonzalez is the best pitcher in baseball right now and then there's Strasburg.
  5. Hamels and their fans are bums! Hitting a 19 year old rookie and cheering Werth for his injury. Philly a disgrace to the game. Go Nats!!
  6. Great music-well worth it even if, like moi, you don't care for compressed music.
  7. I'm considering purchasing an automated ripping station for my 4,000+ cd collection. Most products are for professional use and cost well over $1000. The Acronova Nimbie NB11 pictured below is less than $500 and allows you to load up to 100 discs at a time. Most likely I would sell it on eBay or a computer/audio board after ripping my collection. great idea but you really only need it once. I wonder if you can lease them?
  8. took a while for this luddite to download them but I finally got it done. Had a $2.00 credit so only $7.99. Thanks Bertrand!
  9. Where can you buy lossless downloads? Because...I want those! My link
  10. bought the FLAC download. Excellent sound given its age and terrific performances, IMO. Anyone else heard this?
  11. Hart amazed me with his energy but not his skill (that was established in my mind long ago) at the Cookers show in DC a few months ago. A very nice person as well. I sat a foot away from his kit for 2 sets and I wish every drummer I know could have watched his performance with me
  12. mine as well. 1 more coming.
  13. Caps in and still could win division.
  14. wegmans did not impress me at all-overpriced. TJs is great but not a full grocery store. I really like Harris Teeter-balances quality and pricing quite well. Safeway over Giant if for nothing else than their meats. Produce a little better as well. Never been to Aldis (owner of TJs)
  15. My funny Valentine-sung, played-please not again
  16. aren't there some things on the Fats Proper box that aren't readily available elsewhere?
  17. saw them a few months ago at Bohemian Caverns-a fabulous show. These guys are the real deal! Do not miss them if you get the chance. Their 2 cds are also excellent.
  18. I get the WSJ for $10 a month-paper and online. that's hard to beat.
  19. pm on Earland, CLARK tERRY and the Loggins and Messina DVD
  20. just picked up the complete Clifford Brown Pacific and blue note recordings. will dive in this weekend
  21. I asked for the complete Heath Brothers on Columbia years ago. Collectors Choice issed a twofer with extremely mediocre SQ (big surprise) a few years ago. Jimmy Heath thought it was a good idea as well.
  22. I'm on the fence with this one. The number of outakes and the roller rink organ tracks put me off a bit. Any idea how many sets remain?
  23. SQ does vary, however. That said, how is the Ellington SQ?
