  1. Didn't they do this on 'Jackass'?
  2. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. 22 runs and three grand slams cover a lot of lousy pitching!
  3. Yanks lose a second straight heartbreaker to the A's. Tonights's hurt worse. OUCH!!!
  4. There's a thread on this, release date is in September:
  5. Yes, the only thing worse than paying a pitcher $16 million a year to warm the bench is paying him $16 million a year to put games out of reach for you before the second inning's over. Why does it matter, and why do you care??? The Steinbrenners do not know the meaning of the word "budget". They will always continue to pay as much as it takes to win. ?? Not sure that's as true as it used to be, and not sure what it has to do with my remark about A.J., which concerns the notion that his high salary makes NY hesitant to pull him from the rotation. Highlight from today's game against the Twins: Curtis Granderson hits the first-ever inside-the-park home run at Target Field. Granderson gets the HR because he hit the ball and RAN immediately, no posing no jive, hit and hustle.
  6. Ron Carter also became very involved with academia at the CCNY(City College NY)music program.Don't know exact dates, but I believe he was a professor there for quite awhile, and it's important to point out that a gig like that provides a pension and health benefits, both important considerations for musicians. Between that and playing a gazillion sideman gigs on other's recordings he just may have had not much time to do a lot else.
  7. You were lucky ! Try curry and/or chilli con-carne ! How about fish? You can smell that around the corner!
  8. Jack Johnson at Popmarket, note that it's a one-day sale: http://www.popmarket.com/?cid=nl%3A141023025&utm_medium=email&utm_source=uslegacy-milesdavis&utm_campaign=email-uslegacy-milesdavis-20110811-nl141023025&utm_content=nllink-86808a5-Product%20image
  9. Whenever I'm in my car listening to WKCR and Schaap is on I keep repeating "Shut up Phil" over and over...
  10. On the other hand, Brown gets to choose between allowing Palmer to retire, or getting something in return for him. I think that Palmer is overrated, but that would work in the Bengals' favor. Having finished last in the division, they could use the pick(s) or player(s). However, with other teams rapidly snapping up quarterbacks, the market for Palmer's services is dwindling. So Brown has a player who doesn't want to be there, a frenzied market where almost any QB is getting snapped up, and he...shoots himself in the foot by being a hardass and gets nothing for Palmer.
  11. But he has 'unparalleled instrumental chops'
  12. Good to see that I'm not the only one who thinks the players got hosed this time around. A ten year deal with no chance to terminate early, the same salary cap and one-way contracts and a smaller percentage of league revenues, the players left off the bow and the wrapping paper. I got a good laugh with Mike Brown of the Bengals talking about Carson Palmer's trade request, blathering on about how Palmer's made a commitment for 4 years. The Bengals can cut Palmer at anytime, so where's their commitment?
  13. Last epoisode, with the Palestinian chicken place, Funkhauser's new-found Judaism, etc had me howling. Absurd and funny.
  14. If they do it like Louis Armstrong house/museum that would be pretty cool. I finally paid a visit last week and it was a lot of fun. Way off the beaten track(Corona, Queens) but a good tour of the house, tunes playing, nice Japanese garden.
  15. Normally he slumps in April/May, this year it's July.
  16. Mueller may have been one of the WW2 era players who wouldn't have made the majors except for all the regular players who were in the war.
  17. What was his pitch count?
  18. I went to see the Allman Brothers in March and Scofield was the guest. Not too many people in the audience knew who he was, but he fit right in with some jam-oriented stuff(Elizabeth Reed, Mountain Jam) and played great. He got loud ovations from the audience once they heard him play.
  19. No, this one really did happen, i saw the story in a couple of legit(tabloid though) newspapers but it sure sounds like an Onion headline.
  20. He wanted it over fast, too. What did he spend, 25 minutes on the last 40+ years?! At the least he could have solicited opinions from those not under the sway of Marsalis/Crouch/Murray(NOT DAVID) and present something more complete. It seems like Burns got taken for a ride to some degree, he just took whatever those three said as gospel without looking any further.
  21. "Baseball is like church- ,many attend, few understand" Leo Durocher
  22. The Mets gave up 5 HRs yesterday, hit none and still won 16-9. That is very odd.
  23. Good question, no sighting of him here for awhile...
  24. A belated Happy Birthday, sounds like it was nice.
  25. Thanks much for the B-day wishes, much appreciated here.
