  1. But he has 'unparalleled instrumental chops'
  2. Good to see that I'm not the only one who thinks the players got hosed this time around. A ten year deal with no chance to terminate early, the same salary cap and one-way contracts and a smaller percentage of league revenues, the players left off the bow and the wrapping paper. I got a good laugh with Mike Brown of the Bengals talking about Carson Palmer's trade request, blathering on about how Palmer's made a commitment for 4 years. The Bengals can cut Palmer at anytime, so where's their commitment?
  3. Last epoisode, with the Palestinian chicken place, Funkhauser's new-found Judaism, etc had me howling. Absurd and funny.
  4. If they do it like Louis Armstrong house/museum that would be pretty cool. I finally paid a visit last week and it was a lot of fun. Way off the beaten track(Corona, Queens) but a good tour of the house, tunes playing, nice Japanese garden.
  5. Normally he slumps in April/May, this year it's July.
  6. Mueller may have been one of the WW2 era players who wouldn't have made the majors except for all the regular players who were in the war.
  7. What was his pitch count?
  8. I went to see the Allman Brothers in March and Scofield was the guest. Not too many people in the audience knew who he was, but he fit right in with some jam-oriented stuff(Elizabeth Reed, Mountain Jam) and played great. He got loud ovations from the audience once they heard him play.
  9. No, this one really did happen, i saw the story in a couple of legit(tabloid though) newspapers but it sure sounds like an Onion headline.
  10. He wanted it over fast, too. What did he spend, 25 minutes on the last 40+ years?! At the least he could have solicited opinions from those not under the sway of Marsalis/Crouch/Murray(NOT DAVID) and present something more complete. It seems like Burns got taken for a ride to some degree, he just took whatever those three said as gospel without looking any further.
  11. "Baseball is like church- ,many attend, few understand" Leo Durocher
  12. The Mets gave up 5 HRs yesterday, hit none and still won 16-9. That is very odd.
  13. Good question, no sighting of him here for awhile...
  14. A belated Happy Birthday, sounds like it was nice.
  15. Thanks much for the B-day wishes, much appreciated here.
  16. Carlos Beltran will be available soon...
  17. Best of luck to you, as Dan said I hope to hear soon that you have a gig!
  18. And Carlton went 27-10 for a Phillies team that won 59 games! One of the most amazing seasons any pitched ever had.
  19. good one, thanks for the laughs!
  20. I was in on that deal also. CD Universe had a verry low preorder price and honored it.
  21. From the link you provided it looks like only the 'Captain Marvel' disc has the same lineup- the rest are just what Getz recorded for Columbia. The live RTF is from 1977, and has Gayle Moran on some vocals IIRC. It's an expanded version of the LP release from around then. From the link: [The ultimate RTF statement was the 1977 4LP box Return To Forever Live. This version is the first time that the entire concert has been released on CD in the U.S. Unavailable for some 20 years the complete 2 and 1/2 hour concert is heard here remastered by multi Grammy-winning engineer Mark Wilder]
  22. I'm with Fay Vincent on this one. We see that kind of behavior all the time, in Little League where parents are chewing out umps(and worse), the excesses of Steinbrenner(and I'm a Yankee fan), it cheapens and coarsens the sport and destroys sportsmanship. Respect is necessary.
  23. In 1964 at age 8 I got interested in baseball and had two local teams, the pathetic(but lovable and sometimes hilarious)Mets or the mighty Yankees. In Brooklyn in those days you picked one and you remained loyal to your team forever. I went with the Yankees, and though disappointed that they lost the WS in 1964 I was sure that more were coming. Of course after that the Yankees were horrible for about ten years, but I did learn a lesson in loyalty and sticking to it.
  24. My favorite 3000 hit story was George Brett's. On the final day of a road trip vs. the Angels he goes 4 for 4, the 4th being 3000. A sad one, but how about Roberto Clemente? Gets his 3000th hit on the last day of the season and dies in the offseason in a plane crash delivering supplies to earthquake-ravaged Nicaragua.
  25. I have a cellphone(wife's insistence) and I avoid charging it or carrying it. I always hear people say that they need it for emergencies, but people had emergencies before cellphones and lived. In NYC,in the two biggest emergencies in the last 20 years(9/11 & the blackout) cellphones did not work!
