  4. I agree with this statement 100%. And, in some cases, I'm not sure the corpses are being exhumed and displayed in a manner consistent with the decedent's wishes. Well said, all. My sentiments exactly. Help keep the LIVING musicians living.
  5. The Ray Charles is excellent, and yes, that is Tina Brooks on it. If you don't have it, you should- it's that good.
  6. What about emailing the station?
  7. No, it don't mean shit. Charlie Hustle IS baseball as far as I'm concerned. He never threw any games. It's not in his nature. Bet on em’, sure. But that’s different. And as far as I know, being a nice guy isn't a prerequisite to being inducted. Shit, if Cobb can be in the hall, Rose sure as hell should be. After the 'Black Sox' scandal, the one rule in baseball that carried the 'death penalty' was betting on the game. Rose did so while a manager, a position where he could directly influence games. He was a great player, but he crossed the line that could not be crossed. Sorry,Charlie. Cobb was a major league creep who may have conspired to throw some games, but there is no proof as there is with Rose, so unfortunately he stays.
  8. I saw the link on another site- my son & I were screaming at this one: http://www.wimp.com/worstjob/
  9. Jim Campilongo, guitar- along the lines of Danny Gatton, rockabilly/blues/swing Rebirth Brass Band- even saw them live in NO in July-GREEEEEAT!!!!! Electric Masada- John Zorn's thing- I'm hooked Andrew Hill- better late than never Don Ellis Tal Farlow Peter Brotzman Ken Vandermark There's probably a dozen more that I can't think of right now. 90%+ of the new folks I discovered in 2005 was the result of this board- I thank all who suggested, and my wallet curses every last one of you people who recommended anything- especially stuff I liked!
  10. The kids weren't looking for money- they wanted the good crack
  11. I read some of these posts and they inspired me to play 'Oblique' last night- it's great! Thanks all for the push to play it.
  12. BTW - The 1930s Manhattan look seemed very credible. Anachronisms really bug me and I didn't catch any here. And that applies to the music as well..it all fit the time very nicely. At least my understanding of it from a MUCH later date of course. Seems to be a positive trend in some movies...I thought ROAD TO PERDITION did a good job in this regard also. Again, both visually and audibly.
  13. Happy Birthday!!!!
  14. The big problem with having Artest, Rose & Kobe Bryant on the same team is that there's only one ball! Artest is very talented, but a major head case. Any team that gets him is taking on a lot of risk in exchange for the talent.
  15. I don't know what motivated Reardon to rob the store, but the 'medication made me do it' is a load of horse hockey to mix my sports here.
  16. Dear jazz lovers, my name is José Francisco Tapiz, i'm from Spain, and i'm also the editor of the spanish web site Tomajazz (http://www.tomajazz.com). Yesterday (Dec 28) in Spain is the so called "Dia de los Santos Inocentes" and is usual to play some "inocentadas" (April Fool's Joke). I am sorry if i have offended somebody with this joke about this tapes. Thank you very much, especially to EKE BBB who didn't know anything about this "inocentada". José Francisco "Pachi" Tapiz www.tomajazz.com ps ...i wish some day this recording will come true... i really love Trane and his music... Jose, Thank you for coming on here and being honest with us all.
  17. Happy Birthday, O antlered one!
  18. First off, a massive to CD universe for honoring the pre-order price. They could very well have cancelled all orders(plenty of time had passed) and gone full price on everyone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've listened to the whole set once and a few discs have had a second spin at Chez PHILLYQ. I'm astounded at how this music works with Jarrett & Henderson playing at seeming cross purposes. The genius of Miles strikes again in pairing them in this band. Gary Bartz is also in fine form on this set, playing some pretty long solos that at times make me wanna scream Hallelujah! or something of that sort. I'm going to make up a 'What I Say' disc so that I can follow how that tune mutated over the course of the gig. 'Inamorata' is much better without the narration.
  19. I think Miss Creamcheese likes to kid quite a bit and I find her quite refreshing and even goofy at times(Goofy is pretty cool in my book) with a sharp wit. She might not use smilies, but is it really necessary?
  20. Part of it, at least in my own case, is that while I LOVE the music, I can't write worth a damn about music. I listen attentively, buy discs, etc, but putting it into a written form eludes me so far. I love being around here(lots of really good folks here), but you find most of my posts in non-music topics. Just my $0.02
  21. I've lstened to 2 1/2 discs so far of the Cellar Door and I thought the same thing. I was expecting good and I got great
  22. North Mississippi Allstars, 'Electric Blue Watermelon' It's rootsy, bluesy stuff that I keep coming back to and digging even more.
  23. I just listened to one sample, and that singer has real soul! Looks like I'm buying another disc soon!
  24. Whenever they say "it's not about the money"........ And Scott Boras is his agent...
