  1. By far, the best seller on this board!!
  2. If you get this for the Salvador, I wonder what my 10" CONNs are worth!?!?! Seriously, I wouldn't expect to get that much for this CD on this board, but if you do, please send me the guy's address so I can send him/her a list of my stuff.
  3. PM Sent. Re: two Clark's, Donald Byrd.
  4. Just received a disc in a record three days!!!! THREE DAYS!!
  5. Two trumpeters, IMHO, which should be on everyone's "underrated" list are Dizzy Reece and Howard McGhee. I'd definately recommend any of Reece's four individual albums, or the Mosaic Select. For McGhee, I'd check out "Volume One" and "Volume Two." I particularly enjoy the first track on Vol. 2 entitled "Jarm." Tal Farlow smokes on this album.
  6. Someone should scoop that Monterose disc. Most people pay more than that price for the OOP CONN. Fantastic music as well.
  7. I actually saw this film prior to its release at the Hot Docs Festival in Toronto. The creator spoke at this event. It's a very good documentary, although I can't say it really had a huge impact on my perception on fast food. I mean we all know that it's bad. That said, it was insane what happened to this guy's body after eating Mickey D's for thirty days straight.
  8. I'm going to buck the trend thus far and point out some heavyweight groovers. Charles Earland "Black Talk" Charles Kynard "Professor Soul" Melvin Sparks "Sparks!" Cedar Walton "Spectrum"
  9. Hey Folks, I'm looking for the following: "Expansions" "Time for Tyner" Do any of you have either of these original copies to trade? Thanks!
  10. I wasn't really feeling "Cosmos" when I had the vinyl. It's actually not very groovy. I thought Sweet Poppa Lou was trying for something more straight ahead on this date. That said' "Say it Loud!" is a monster and deserves the reissues treatment. If Water wasn't reissuing the "Phantom," I'd also recommend that one.
  11. I second that suggestion. I also think "On Broadway" by Reuben Wilson would be an excellent choice. I use to have the vinyl of this record. Nice groovy tracks!
  12. I think Wynton Marsalis would play a much better Miles (PAUSE)....ROFL! YEAH RIGHT!
  13. If anyone doubted Tanno's service, check this out...I purchased three Horace Silver TOCJs from him (two were used copies), and they got lost in the mail. He replaced all three of them with NEW copies. The man is great! Maybe, the best jazz retailer on-line.
  14. www.bigapplejazz.com Links to all of the city's jazz venues.
  15. I'd seriously consider putting Oliver Nelson's "Blues & the Abstract Truth" on this list as well. Maybe even, "Maiden Voyage."
  16. Everyone has the wrong impression of Bob James, George Benson, Grover Washington et al. Their early sides for the CTI and other labels groove hard. Maybe, not the Blue Note sound, but hardly the crap that most people associate these names with. In fact, most of it is extremely greeeazzzy....
  17. Does anyone have this to sell/ trade? No burns, please.
  18. I'm thinking Tal Farlow should get some recognition here. The problem is that not everyone is likely to have any of his Verve sides seeing as many have never been released domestically. Thanks to Stefan for hooking me up with "Tal Farlow Album" & "Tal" this past week. These swing nicely.
  19. The next certainty on my list is Duke Pearson "The Phantom." Then some of the CONNs in the fall...other than that, I'll play it by ear!
  20. Does anyone have an extra copy of this to trade? Help would be very much appreciated.
  21. Never got it, but it's still there. I should probably throw it on for a listen next time I'm at the store.
  22. Sssshhh... Seriously, I bought this at Academy Records. It was a nice store, but where the hell was all of the imports that they list on their website?!?!? I was looking forward to dropping a nice bit.
  23. I guess I'm in the minority that don't mind the "Night of the Cookers" releases. I have the TOCJs of these ones and, to my ears, they sounds good. Granted the sessions meander a bit, and Lee Morgan is slightly below his usual standards, but the jam is still nice. I'd say check them out before you judge, but understand that the songs are very open-ended.
