  1. Sad news. A fine documentary on BBC a while back.

    Rashied Ali

    Very sad news.
  3. You're right, CT,Lonely Woman works well but instrumentally it's trombonist Cook who catches my ear. The quartet track sounds a bit of a mess, Watts seems very ill at ease. This Savoy double has some nice things.
  4. New Music;Second Wave; Savoy 2lp
  5. Just dusted "New Music Second Wave" off and given the Watts tracks a spin. Interesting but I can't say that I'd go very far out of my way to hear more.
  6. Just watching a dvd of High Sierra. Best thing on UK tv at the moment is a Swedish detective series "Wallander". Very cool.
  7. All the above apart from Politics
  8. Not heard of this one before. As well as the Prestige date, the Jubilee/Roulette album has some very nice Coltrane. Date from 1960 by the way.
  9. The Mobley tracks are on Classics 1424, Dizzy Gillespie 1953-1954. And Bill iisn't Siborney by Diz and Getz?
  10. The eight Diz Quintet/Sextet with Hank (Jimmy Cleveland is added for the sextet) tracks are very entertaining. The Classics cd is well worth seeking out.

Don't know but Robin and Rainger don't get any music credit at IMDB as far as I can see. They do however get a credit in the 1949 movie.

    Tiny Grimes

I've always enjoyed Callin The Blues. The other Prestige dates didn't really do it for me.
  13. Nice review in Jazz Journal too
  14. Sorry I get there. Have a good evening. Just read the nice review in Jazz Journal. Good luck Alex
  15. Last evening John Coltrane; Afro Blue Impressions. Pablo Live (UK Polydor)
  16. We hava garden, mostly lawn and shrubs to keep the work load down. Quite a lot of lavender to attract bees. All we need to do is trim a hedge, mow the grass and go round with the hoe occasionally. The shrubs need cutting back annually so it doesn't become too much of a jungle. We are growing cherry tomatos in baskets for the first time this year, looks like there will be a decent crop.
  17. Happy Birthday, have a great day.
  18. Nice one Shawn, thanks for posting.
  19. Happy Birthday Lon.
  20. A space-age bachelor essential. I've not played this in years, much more enjoyable than I remembered. Excellent album.
  21. Frank Rosolino Quintet; VSOP/Mode Michel Legrand; Legrand Jazz. Japanese Philips.
  22. Diz and Getz; Verve(Euro Polydor)
  23. An afterthought on this one - I've always thought that the sound on Smithville is particularly good.
  24. Agreed. I play this LOUD.
