  1. I still have my vinyl copy. I can't say I have any inclination to get it out. If it wasn't for the Blue Note label I probably would have passed on it in the first place.
  2. Tony Hall was almost a British Alfred Lion, producing some of the very best UK hard bop sessions, I think he deserves some credit for this date. This is a fine album, everyone plays well, a fine set of compositions, plenty of variety. Well up to Blue Note standards.
  3. Many thanks jazzshrink.
  4. Happy birthday and many happy returns
  5. Is anyone able to identify a first edition of this album. Any identifying features would be appreciated.
  6. Can anyone provide me with a jpg of this cover or a link to one. My internet searches haven't uncovered one. Thanks in advance. My email johnshelton@btinternet.com

    Charles Thomas

A friend played me pianist Thomas' 'The Legend Of Charles Thomas'. A nice set of attractive standards with a top notch rhythm section. Some good things here but overall I didn't find it that compelling first off. Thomas seems to have a very limited discography, a sideman date on DIW and three cds on Space Time. Opinions anyone?
  8. Thanks for sharing Paul
  9. Congratulations Paul, here's to every happiness.
  10. Very enjoyable, if I remember correctly.
  11. I think I'd classify my 'Street Lady' as VG+. It looks a shade or two darker on my copy.
  12. Cadence has always worked well for me. Global Priority to the UK is $7.00 for one cd and service is excellent. I would say order with confidence. The Cadence crew are always happy and quick to help. Buyers used to be able to dispense with the jewel box and replace it with Cadence's 'jewel box begone' sleeves which allowed buyers to have 3 cds for the shipping price of one. Unfortunately this option appears to have gone.
  13. I've always enjoyed Tiny Grimes' 'Callin The Blues'
  14. I've overcome my feelings of guilt - but I think that the two or three things I just had to have all fell within the 50 year rule. I'd rather have a legit issue but failing that Lonehill and it's associated labels will just have to do.
  15. Far from my favourite Mobley. When I got mine (not a cut out) I thought it was pretty hard to find, in the UK that is. Glad to have it though.
  16. Have a truly Happy Birthday Kevin!
  17. A very happy birthday to you, Bertrand
  18. Why haven't I got this? I eagerly snapped up most IN and similar things when they came out. I remember the album, just short of cash maybe or I thought I had enough of Bluiett at the time or perhaps it wasn't available in London for too long. Sorry I missed it.
  19. Thanks John and Claude. When I googled it the link didn't work on the only site I could find. Anyway just what I needed. Those food prices seem very comparable to the UK. Thanks again, very much appreciated.
  20. I'm spending a few days in Poland next week and need to have some idea how far my spending money will go. Anyone have idea how much a cup of coffee costs or a mid-price meal.
  21. Nothing to help in Lord I'm afraid Guy. The entries just say 1970.
  22. I've lived with this for thirty plus years. Playing it now it doesn't quite have the surprise factor it had back then but it's pretty damn good. Great tunes, excellent solos, even the voices are fine (except maybe they repeat 'there'll be enough someday a little too often'). But the thing for me is Harper's SOUND. I went on to get most of his records from this period and the sound always hits me from the off. This was my introduction to Harper and probably to Strata East and some of that labels regulars who I came across here for the first time. Listening to the vinyl now this would certainly benefit from a sonic upgrade, presumably there is a cd issue.
  23. Billy Harper; Capra Black
  24. Tambourine on 'Straight Life'
  25. I used to have 'Cosmic Vortex' - I may still have a cassette copy. He's on one of the Freddie Hubbard CTI's too.
