  1. A little off thread but the band we put on last week (Roger Beaujolais Quintet) kicked off their set with 'Jean de Fleur'. A tune that deserves to be covered.
  2. Happy Birthday Claude
  3. Very sad news, a true original.
  4. 'One Step Beyond' is my favourite of the three McLean/Moncur albums. The p;aying is fine on both but it's Hutcherson who grabs my ear much of the time. His comping and soloing is wonderful. He rarely sounded better.
  5. Thanks for the warning MG.

    Yusef Lateef's Funk

I know Yusef's 'Jazz Around The World'. It's nice enough but the pieces are all on the short side and the emphasis is on the around the world theme. A bit gimmicky imo.

    Tim Green

I have the Gonzalez cd, but that's all I know.
  8. Donation sent
  9. Only know it as a holiday maker. Nice part of the world. Flagstaff is great, lots to visit roundabout. Hoping to get back there again soon.
  10. Guy The Woods tend to send what they have and back order the rest. If they can get them you'll get them eventually. If they can't they usually let you know. Seems like a good deal. John
  11. Have a good one!
  12. Short boigraphy and analysis of his playing takes up the first third of the book. The remainder is the discography/review section. Recommended
  13. Have a great day, best wishes.
  14. Especially if like my copy of this cd the opening is at the bottom. Still, nice to look at.
  15. This is a fine little band. I have all Motian's things on JMT and Winter and Winter (I probably don't need any more) and they are all enjoyable. But this one doesn't come out very often. Overall though I find myself playing the quartets, On Broadway, Bill Evans. Maybe it's because they pack more into the shorter performances on these studio recordings, or perhaps it's the addition of a bass player. Still this is a nice one to have.
  16. Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan - Carnegie Hall Live.
  17. Have a very happy day.
  18. They are unlikely to be grand-kid proof looking at the state of their game discs.
  19. The Booker Little/Teddy Charles is the Museum of Modern Art set originally on Warwick. Presumably the Fresh sound version is acceptable. All the Jazz View titles I've heard have been rather poor copies from vinyl. So best to treat this label with extreme caution. Most of the music is available elsewhere I suspect.
  20. 'The recording quality leaves something to be desired'. A definite understatement.
  21. Good question, I liked 'Dusk' very much and still play it frequently.
  22. Avoid the Booker Little/Teddy Charles on Jazz View. The sound is awful.
  23. Yes it's that time again, after a good run we need you to come forward again and put up some albums for discussion. To nominate an AOTW just PM me and I'll add ypu to the list.
