  1. David Murray. 89 as leader or co leader plus 56 as sideman, not including live cdrs etc. Miles next.
  2. Thanks for your comments PHILLYQ. One to get.
  3. Great, it's arrived. With the sonic upgrade it's like hearing it for the first time. Absolutely delightful. Thanks Chuck.
  4. DIVAFICATIONS" I love that.
  5. In this part of the south of England it's basically non-existent.
  6. I remember it well, especially as the Astoria Finsbury Park. Saw some great concerts there, my first Duke Ellington concert (absolutely electrifying), Art Blakey and more. As the Rainbow I think I only saw Miles (offensively loud) and the electric Return to Forever. As a cinema it was magnificent with a Moorish interior. I believe it was listed as a historic building. Unfortunately it was deteriorating badly last time I was there.
  7. Still waiting for mine, I'm beginning to feel left out of things.
  8. Anyone heard this one yet and care to give a review and the personnel?
  9. Just seen this 2 cd set listed as a March/April release in the UK (label unkown). It's been a long time coming.
  10. Speaking from the UK; give me Phoenix anytime. Probably my best holiday destination ever.
  11. I've only tried this once and it copied without any problems.
  12. Favourite Kirk is "Kirk's Work" with Jack McDuff followed by "We Free Kings"
  13. Happy Birthday Rooster, and many more.
  14. "Junior" is a great session. One of my favourites since it's first issue. It could well do with domestic release. I should add that overall I'm with Lon on this one despite his fine playing with Adderley and Dizzy.
  15. I keep my BN lps together, in artist order. I do much the same for other labels (Verve, Savoy, Prestige) where I have a significant amount. Works for me.
  16. Peter, it's the same in practically every town in the UK. Jazz racks are getting smaller and smaller. And where there are a few jazz discs they are usually MOR or easy listening.
  17. I voted for Lee. nothing to add to Jim R's comments above.
  18. I don't know when I last gave my old lp of this a spin. It's lovely stuff. I've always been very fond of the Silver quintet with Mitchell and Cook for all the reasons underground agent spells out. Everything works out just right. The tunes, arrangements and solos are soulful, groovy and fun, always better than interesting and just the right length. Thanks undergroundagent for getting me to play this one again.
  19. It was out on a Jazzline 2lp set. I'd guess that Dennis and Sims were on tour as members of the Benny Goodman Orchestra.
  20. Ayler's fine with me but I've never been able to get into Evan Parker. Parker can play though. I saw him recently do a solo set on soprano which mainly cosisted of runs up and down the instrument but with a change of tonal centre every few minutes. Twenty minutes was quite long enough. His second set was with a classical Indian alto saxist accompanied by tabla etc. where he played pretty much straight ahead and listenable tenor.
  21. If I remember correctly there wasn't one for 2003.

    Jim Hall

There's no argument from me, Hall is great. Let's not forget his stunning work with Paul Desmond. Beautifully understated and absolutely brilliant. He still sounds just as good today.
  23. Happy birthday chaps, have a great day.
  24. There was an interviews Hadley Caliman in Cadence issues Vol 27 #12 and Vol 28 #1. He's had some tough times. Well worth reading. I'm sorry I no longer have them.
