  1. Music can still make me move around. I clap, stomp and play air drums regularly.
  2. Roswell Rudd. Two cds played in quick succession. Steve Lacy/Roswell Rudd, Monk's Mood and Archie Shepp/Roswell Rudd Live in NewYork. Too many terrific solos by Rudd here to name and individual track.
  3. I'm not a great fan of latin jazz so I normally steer clear of it. But Jerry Gonzalez and the Fort Apache Band are another matter, This is a very enjoyable record as are the other two or three I have in my collection. I hear them as a jazz group with a added "latin", And I like the way they easily slip into jazz time (at least on the records I have). All the solos here are excellent. Exciting music of lasting interest.
  4. Me too. Looking forward to it..
  5. Borrowed from a friend. Canadian Sparton pressing.
  6. It didn't do anything for me either. The lp was soon disposed of. I hadn't realised it wasn't complete.
  7. Same here, but I still went ahead and bought the box.

    Denis Charles

Certainly not forgotten here. I was lucky enough to see him play in London with the Jazz Doctors.
  9. Follow Felser. List your choice on 25 September. Nice to see some renewed interest. Thanks Emil.
  10. Jeffcrom now, Felser next. Sounds fine. Thanks guys. Any takers for September 18?
  11. Some of you may be aware that the Nigel Price Trio/Quartet/Quintet are about to embark on a UK wide tour between now and the end of the year. The basic trio consists of guitarist Price, Ross Stanley on organ and drummer Matt Home. On various dates the trio adds Vasilis Xenopoulos and Alex Garnett. If you don't know this band they are truly excellent. If they are at a venue near you don''t miss them. Take my word for it.
  12. There's a Steve Kuhn on Buddah with a string Quartet arranged by Gary McFarland. Don Cherry's Relativity Suite has some very effective writing for a small string group on at least one track.
  13. Sad to read this. Fine musician.

    RVG - RIP

    RIP Rudy. Thanks for everything.
  15. Sad news. I don't have much by him but he always sounded fine.
  16. Bill Stewart and Dennis Irwin on bass.
  17. I saw the Sco/Lovano Quartet Live. One of the most memorable concerts I've attended.
  18. MIles Davis - Complete Bitches Brew Sessions. Disc 3 and 4
  19. Bobby Hutcherson; Dialogue. Blue Note(UA)
  20. Very sad news. I was initially amazed by his playing with Jackie McLean and Archie Shepp. The subsequent BNs are terrific I can't say I followed his post Blue Note career very closely. I did get to see him just once on, a said to be troubled visit to the UK, in a quintet with Hadley Caliman.
  21. Since my first post I had a quick look at the Kindle sample. Looking at the few pages sampled it didn't look like there was very much new there.
  22. At the start a nomination was made by the previous participant. Later when there were numerous members wishing to take part in AOTW that system no longer worked satisfactorily. I took over the scheduling to maintain some sort of order, members would pm me and I would allocate a date in the order requests were received. Often there would be five or six members wanting to take part at any given time. This seemed to work well until it finally fizzled out. I also maintained the master list after couw could no longer do it.. I can't see it being that popular again but I enjoyed the posts and comments and I would be very happy to see it restart. I'd suggest to get it going again Mike lists something and we'll see how it goes..
  23. I'm happy to keep it going again. Anyone want to nominate a record? Only problem is I've forgotten how to update the master list. Help please.
  24. Belated birthday greetings Lon. Sorry I missed the day.
