That's a great one, paps! I'm mad about Roy Eldridge's playing in the 50s. He's also fantastic on Mingus and Roach's Newport Rebels. I've coveted that one for a while. Spurred to act by King Ubu, if I recall correctly, in another thread. Looking forward to it. Just spinning my vinyl copy. Pleased to see Track 1 is called "Pap's Blues"! Note for Sidewinder: Bought this Japanese Verve re-issue in 1984 from Dobell's at their final resting place in a back street in Covent Garden. It was my one and only purchase from those premises; I never managed to find them again before they folded. Their inaccessibility was doubtless a factor in their collapse! Ugghh. I knew I should've bought this one when I saw it in Chicago.

Absolutely! Painter's Spring and Die Like a Dog/Little Birds Have Fast Hearts vols I & II come immediately to mind.

You really can't go wrong with masterings and sound quality when it comes to the OJC's and the Columbia/Legacys. These are for the most part, consistently well-remastered. The Prestige RVG's have been a real treat too.

Agree about Fantasy keeping so much obscure jazz in print for so long. Even most of the items that have slipped out of print can still be had for reasonable prices, so its no surprise with the decline of cd sales that Concord's cutting their inventory. Who can blame them? They have to do, just like some of the other major label/distributors, what they have to do.

Great album. Wayne's debut with the Jazz Messengers if memory serves.

Wow! Go out of town for a couple of days and look how things heat up! Serena, flat out, was an asshat. She should've known better to get a grip and serve a second serve. Kim had her owned anyways, it was Serena's last chance to stay in the game and she flat-out blew it. I think she surpassed John McEnroe when it comes to absurd behavior. GO KIM! Del Potro's straight-set win over Nadal caught me off guard too. Man, this guy is just as good on hard courts as Nadal is on clay! I think we have an interesting final, both in the men's and women's draw, in the works! Saw that "tweener" that turned out to be a winner. Roger's amazing!

Watching Tropic Thunder...not sure what to make of this yet.

Told my wife, who's the real fan of the show, thinks Ellen will be a good edition, even though she has no musical experience. Oh well, maybe she's there to add some comic relief and maybe they'll be some fun entertainment with how she bounces off of Simon's remarks. I guess that remains to be seen.

Hope you're getting better. Strangely, my wife's office assistant came down with a very similar "viral" infection, with identical symptoms and a very similar five hour or so time span. Don't know what this is, but I don't think they had lunch together because she got sick a couple of days later, so I ruled out food poisoning. Whatever it is, its strange; very strange indeed.

I did, DVR'ing until 1am which apparently the match was suspended due to rain delay (took three hours of fast-forwarding to find that out ). Does anyone know when the match will be concluded? Did that happen today?

not strictly correct... Roy Ayers Ubiquity: S/T, has the bonus "He Gives Us All His Love" - previously available only on a rare promo 7". Yeah, it appears that McCoy's Today and Tomorrow is also retaining all the bonus tracks from the GRP edition. Oh, that's good to know! Will look for this one then! It does not... and of course I didn't check before ordering it, only saw it tonight, when it finally arrived... grrr! Will still keep it, these Originals have turned into lovely digipacks by now and I have a CDR of the OOP GRP CD with the bonus tracks... Hmmmm, Amazon showed the same track listing as the GRP release. Strange. Well to be honest, I don't think the bonus tracks really add much to the first half of the cd, which is amazing to say the least, so I would say that one wouldn't be missing a whole lot if they didn't get those extra tracks. Just my opinion of course.
