  1. No, I did not know that. Thanks Russ. Big band's not really my thing, but I thought I'd give it a whirl.

  3. Happy Birthday Wes!
  4. Hehehe, hot busty blonde art and jazz groupie--isn't that an oxymoron? Forget "no strings attached," I'd want to tie her down with a wedding proposal asap! Thanks again, guys.
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. Thanks everybody!
  7. Very cool link! I'm going to go through the whole list. Thanks for posting it, Chris.
  8. Trusting Dan's initial reaction, I opted to not click.
  9. That sucks, Yao was really elevating his game. I had thoughts that they were being slept on and could really surprise someone in the playoffs, but if SI had them at #1 it wasn't a secret.
  10. I watched the Braves more than the Dodgers in those 14 years, since their games were on TV constantly. Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine were all studs. They did have the benefit of some friendly corners, but they made it look good. One of my childhood memories is watching Nolan Ryan pitch, my brothers telling me to watch the gun, and seeing him throw it over 100mph consistently. Years later it has sunk in that most pitchers simply can't do that.
  11. It was posted a while back, Robert, but it's still cool.
  12. I respectfully disagree. I have lots of what could be classified as "instrumental pop," and it blows away any smooth jazz that I've heard. I have lots of what could be classified as instrumental pop too, but I've also got some pretty good smooth jazz. I've also heard some smooth jazz which was so abyssmal as to rank below any instrumental pop I've ever heard. So, I guess I'm with you as far as it not being quite as black and white as my first post might indicate.
  13. There's a fine line between smooth jazz and instrumental pop.
  14. I always enjoy watching Phoenix lose. The Suns looked extra rattled in that third period. Did I see back to back backcourt violations?! Oh man, I loved every minute of it. I noticed Chauncey got a nice knot on his head. Did Shaq do that one too? Billups is a tough sob, he played right through it. The Lakers are rolling. Sasha Vujacic is shooting over 50% from the floor during the current seven game road winning streak.
  15. Happy Birthday! We're almost exactly the same age, trane_fanatic. You've got me by a few days.
  16. Noj, I've mentioned this in the distant past, but since no one is expected to remember what everyone says, I'll repeat it... I "explore what I already have" by starting each New Year with the resolution to listen to all of my CDs at least once in the calendar year. For the first time in a number of years, in 2007 I actually did it. Here's my method: I do not shelve my CDs in alphabetical order. I keep one shelf separate for the CDs opened in the past twelve months. They get by far the most play. All of my other CDs, regardless of genre, I keep together. There is no order except one - I place the CD I have just listened to at the end of the top shelf. When that shelf is filled up, I slide all of my CDs down to make the top shelf empty again. I call this the LIFO method (for the accounting term "last in, first out"). Because there is no order except that of having been played, I sometimes cannot find a CD I am looking for. But that doesn't happen very often. The benefit of this system is that I know right where to go to find the CDs I haven't listened to in a long time. They are on the bottom shelf. I believe that my habitual browsing of the bottom shelf keeps me from getting burned out on my collection. And I often hear things in a record that I hadn't noticed before when hearing something for the first time in many months! edit for typo Damn! Looks like I wasted a Sunday putting everything in alphabetical order. Effective technique, thanks for the suggestion, Russ. I'm currently finishing up an Excel spread sheet of all my music, I found it helped to refresh my memory of what I have just by going through everything again. Found myself reaching for some discs I'd completely forgotten acquiring!
  17. Like BeBop and Lon, diversification has helped me from burning out on any one genre. However, I haven't been listening to music for nearly as long as you guys. Recently I have found myself annoyed with my music collection, stuck in a rut and playing the same stuff too much--not exploring what I already have enough.
  18. Shaq's played a total of four games in the last two months. Only his first game with the team, and he posted 15 points and 9 rebounds and made some very nice passes. Give the Daddy some credit, SS1! How 'bout that goose egg on Raja Bell's noggin? Youch! Still, huge win for the Lakers. 3-1 regular season series advantage over the Suns, so the Lakers will have home court advantage if the two square off in the playoffs.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. (I hope no offense is taken by my post--I found myself yelling "Hans" like John Mclain when reading JAW's WAYLTN posts of his incredible collection!)
