those Black Lion digital releases are strange. They also did a Jym Young Trio that's pretty cool -- would be nice if they'd put this stuff out on CD with proper attribution, but maybe that's asking a bit too much!

Ah yes, a real stunner! (mine is stereo) Had a great time many years ago interviewing Graham -- wonderful man, he is missed.

Now, wasn't Gravatt living in Minneapolis or at least that area for some time? I am pretty sure I saw him with McCoy at least once.

Well, I only have qualms about gatefolds when there's not extra music or some super-deluxe look. It's a thin gatefold, nice printing but that's about it. I think an insert could have covered it.

They wouldn't both fit on a single album so I assume this is either a 2CD or an edited set. Both are great of course. For Losers is okay. I listen to Kwanza quite a bit and dig it.

prior to this Tone Poet version I assume the CD from 2000 is probably the most improved sonically in this regard, right? my memory is that the Mosaic was better than the Japanese LP version. The Mosaic is what I have in the racks.

How is that one? I've struggled to get into some of his records, though I do like the Dane Belany album quite a bit...

yeah this is a super gnarly album, not for the faint of heart! I believe they signed a bunch of copies back in the day -- perhaps for reviewers or something.

cracking good album. I have the FMP reissue, which sounds great, but the private original pressing is pretty sick!

Just arrived this morning. Great sound and pressing. I'm a bit of a puritan when it comes to non-expanded reissues with different covers, and the gatefold isn't ideal (compared to an insert) but Ras Moshe Burnett's liner notes are cool. I had not heard it in such a long time that I'd forgotten how introspective the record actually is, and the quietness of some of the cuts is well-served by this very silent vinyl. Recommended.

yeah there have been a few bootleg reissues of the Pat Patrick as well as an Art Yard version, which is legit.

Zita Carno did as well; if Braxton did, they weren't published. Somehow it seems unlikely. regarding the nickname "Muff," it's a distortion pedal for guitarists, though I suppose with Mr. White there would be other connotations as well.

ah, interesting -- yeah, the occasions I saw him play here in NY, he had a guy running the merch table that had come up from DC to assist.

Yeah, I kinda can't believe how much the Cosmic went for, but records aren't getting any cheaper. The prices on the East New York Ensemble and the Leo Jones are pretty outrageous too -- excellent albums, but jeez!

Yeah, I remember you had to mail a check to his address, call him up on the phone, etc.. there's still a few of his LPs I'd like to get, as well as publications. I should have been more proactive about that when I interviewed him/saw him in concert, but the road to everywhere is always paved with "shoulda"s.

I really wish I'd bought the massive catalog book and autobiography when I had the opportunity. I think one of his younger relatives was helping him fill orders for a while; not sure whether that cottage industry will continue but I hope it does.

I'm sad to confirm that that DC saxophonist and author Andrew White passed on Wednesday at the age of 78. I was lucky enough to see him play here in New York a few times and interview him by phone. Fascinating character -- definitely a character -- and kind man. White also played bass with The 5th Dimension and Stevie Wonder, as well as transcribing over 700 Coltrane solos. He released most of his work on his own Andrew's Music label/publishing imprint. RIP.

Nah, they didn't mention it on YT either; Glover has played with Milford a ton but Brother Ah, not too much as far as I know.
