  1. Crap. I posted a HB quickly from my phone and did not realize. Damn.
  2. Minoru Miki -- Music for 20-String Koto and Ensemble -- (Camerata, JP)
  3. although the reunion eventually did happen, however briefly...
  4. He was one of the greats. For me a formative influence on listening to this music. RIP, and thank you sir.
  5. The Velvet Underground & Nico -- (Verve/Polydor, JP)
  6. well, the Andrew Hill isn't the only Warwick record that TCB booted. They also did the Donald Byrd/Pepper Adams and the Teddy Charles. Those TCBs sound gawd-awful! I like the Ping 45s but agree that South Side hard bop and soul jazz is a long way from what Hill was doing on Blue Note ten years later. That said, Hill could also pen some in-the-club groovers, as he did for Morgan and Mobley.
  7. Art Farmer -- "Live at the Half-Note" -- (Atlantic, JP stereo)
  8. yeah, I've seen this around before. It is a really nice cover image.
  9. same, but of course I didn't hear it until the 1990s and that was a very different time from when it was released!
  10. Two of my favorite LPs in one stellar package, and then some!
  11. The Nessa LP is excellent. Kinda neat coincidence, Ted Brown returned to music some years ago after working for many years as a computer engineer (starting in the late 60s IIRC).
  12. was supposed to be Alan Silva on bass but there was some sort of travel screwup (iirc) and he couldn't make the date.
  13. Thanks! We did take a lot of care in mastering these from original reel tapes, but I think the initial recordings themselves were very well done. I can say that the Ertunç record is great as well.
  14. I agree with this completely. He was a true giant. Saw him only once, hung out with him after and it was a kick. Also really enjoyed interviewing him for the NYC Jazz Record -- a gracious, hilarious, and fun guy who would talk your ear off.
  15. ha, I wouldn't mind tele-transporting myself somewhere else a lot of the time!
  16. I'd like to mention here that I'll be spinning the albums in full at 131 Grand Street in Brooklyn on Wednesday, December 13 from 8:30 PM onward. Listening party vibe; the event is free but there will be a cash bar and a few LP copies (I think) there for purchase via Academy Records.
  17. Motohiko Hino -- Toko Flash -- (Trio, JP)
  18. organissimo has a few.
  19. Chris Spedding -- Songs Without Words -- (EMI Odeon, JP) fantastic LP with Paul Rutherford, John Marshall et al.
  20. Nakamura recorded a number of his own albums, especially of interest are one on Nadja and one privately released. He worked quite a bit with Ted Daniel during the late 70s/early 80s.
  21. indeed, he's wonderful throughout.
  22. Isao Suzuki -- Orang-utan -- (TBM, Japan)
  23. Wow, what a life. RIP.
