  1. Zoot, Cohn, Dorham, Mann, etc. - Jazz Committee for Latin American Affairs - (FM, Japanese reissue)
  2. Yeah, those are fine ones you've been listening to today! Have had the Murray for many years and love it... got that Flaherty/Nace pretty recently.
  3. Rolf and Joachim make a good pair. I've not followed either of their recent work too much, though most of the stuff from the '60s and '70s is solid to excellent. Joachim's BYGs and MPS LPs are great. You should try to check out "Transfiguration," which is Rolf & Joachim plus Aldo Romano, Beb Guerin and Karl Berger. It's a doozy. As for Shepp, though I don't really buy too many of his more recent discs, it's been a treat to see him perform in the past decade. I didn't like his singing until I actually saw him do it (with Amina Myers and Cameron Brown). Fantastic.
  4. I was impressed with Mike DiRubbo, too, when I heard his new-ish disc on PosiTone.
  5. I'm interested to see where Darius Jones goes. Certainly more firmly in the "out" bag, but he's got soul and chops, and considering his work with Mike Pride, can probably pull off some convincing more mainstream stuff.
  6. Sahib Shihab - Seeds - (Rearward reissue)
  7. Charles Tyler - Ensemble - (ESP-Disk)
  8. I've dug Cadel Evans since his mountain biking days. Glad he got to wear yellow at the Champs.
  9. He seemed like a really interesting character. I only know some of his music, but what I've listened to has been awesome. I dreamed about him last night, strangely enough, and then there's this news today... weird.
  10. The vinyl of that one is quite hard to find. Great stuff, as with a lot of those Silkhearts.
  11. Shit, that's sad news. RIP.
  12. Really? So Bird did too (have it comin')?!? - & many others. Maybe I misunderstand your comment. Seems a little cold. At any rate, I thought she had much potential. I'll miss hearing what might have been. Absolutely agree. I had the same reaction. Hopefully, it was not intended as it came across. Boy, the thing about potential. That's so right on... just a killer. Not only Winehouse, but all the others. What is it about celebrity that pushes people to and beyond the brink? Seemed to me she had a death wish and was on a mission to do herself in. That might be cold, but since others comments of 'not being surprised' don't merit the same reaction... Also, Amy Winehouse was not Bird, nor Billie.
  13. She had it comin'.
  14. Kinda pricey for three discs but... I bet it's great.
  15. Welcome, Kent! Thanks again for the fine AAJ interview some years back. (and of course the music)
  16. Great stuff! The Hartman/Coltrane is a favorite. I had an ex who hated it. That is why she's an ex, I guess.
  17. Sweet! I'll credit Oe Fischer as the one to hip me to the fact that there are somehow two Hans Kollers in existence! I'd only known of the saxman before...
  18. yeah, but it's the most obvious one. I would like to go a week without being called that. I think if the real CT were ever called "Clifford the Big Red Dog," there'd be hell to pay.
  19. Funny - never seen/heard of that Six Winds LP.
  20. I'll pretend I didn't see that last one...
  21. My dad once asked if Booker Little and Booker Ervin were related. In a non-literal sense, I guess they might be.
