  1. good call on Patton; have that in the racks! Pearl Jam I had and bought new upon release in 1991. It was more prominently pink than purple from what memory tells me, though now I see some purple highlights. Saw them on tour through Lawrence, KS in spring of 1992 and they were actually incredible live. Never went further than the first album, however.
  2. Used to have a bunch of her records but let them go when I relocated back east. Probably got just $5 selling my original purple marbled Hounds of Love
  3. nothing has been issued from what I can tell, if it ever occurred.
  4. Wonderful album. Mine has a white cover so this purple one is new to me.
  5. yeah, I know someone who has the master tapes though I'm unsure of their condition. They were salvaged from a home or outbuilding of Oxley's that was being sold. If anyone can do a proper, legitimate reissue of this record, it's the person I know.
  6. Perhaps. I have the early 00s CD set, which has some but not all of the Shepp takes. And then the Seattle, Antibes, and standard Impulse A-77 LPs.
  7. I should buy that. Even though I have most of it except the mono reference takes and I think I'm missing a couple of the Shepp tracks.
  8. Look forward to hearing this, but I gotta say the cover art and choice of album title are not too appealing.
  9. yeah -- I mean, I still think the Fugs are both hilarious and important but am doubtful too many contemporary young people get the humor. Is it racist when they use the word g**k in "Kill for Peace" or is it exploring the rallying cries of fascist Americans in the '60s (who aren't much different from today's)? I'd say it is not racist but I wouldn't necessarily play it on the radio either. Re: TCM, I wouldn't say that a person of color using the n-word is "racist language," but I would say that if white actors are using it, then yes. Larry David is a schmuck but he is very funny. Jerry Seinfeld is a less funny schmuck, and Michael Richards is a putz.
  10. verso of various artists compilation "Born Free: The 12th German Jazz Festival" on Scout Records from 1970
  11. posted same in another thread -- the BCT set is absolutely wonderful.
  12. Anything can be fodder for humor, sure. As mentioned above, the line kind of draws itself when the joke teller seems to be more about making light of hypothetical traumatic circumstances than creating a funny situation and delivering the punchline. See, the Aristocrats is still absolutely golden. Andrew Dice Clay? Not funny.
  13. That Berkeley Community Theater set should get legitimately released. I have the bootleg LP which was around for a short blip, and was very glad I plunked down. It's really wonderful.
  14. well, the only ones that could make a Mel Brooks or a Richard Pryor movie are Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor, and they aren't people of the current time cycle. Today is today, other times are other times. Shit's still fucking funny though.
  15. Mel Brooks rules. Love Blazing Saddles. I do not use the n-word but I am not gonna tell a person of color whether or not they can use that word. I also understand why it is important that words like that be claimed by the historically oppressed and their meaning changed -- see the "f-word" or "queer" or "bitch" or any number of other terms in the English language. And, re Eastman above, dig into this: https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/julius-eastman-incendiary-titles-13168/
  16. last one is Willem Breuker's "The Message" on ICP (second cover variation). Looks a little bluer here than my copy in the racks does, to be honest. oh, and of course:
  17. I was looking at my copies of Shepp's "Derailleur" and Richard Davis' "Harvest;" both seem to be kind of on the blue-violet cusp, so I'm not sure they'd fit here. They look purplish in my record room light but blue online. one that has proved elusive for me (I have a Norma reissue):
  18. yeah, I think the trifecta of their expense, consumers' expense, and licensing complexities probably kept certain sessions out. More to find and listen to for me!
  19. Such a great band -- very sad news. Suzuki seems like a really interesting person by all accounts, and not just in the context of Can. Both Malcolm Mooney and Irmin Schmidt are still with us and musically active, so that's something.
  20. Moses was great indeed. As Al Fielder said to me, "man, there must be something in the water up there in Pittsburgh!"
