No - just the earlier sessions on the Mosaic. 'Michelle' is also absent. There's mention in the 'Deep In A Dream' book that at the time these LPs were put together Richard Bock was involved in putting out stuff for the Muzak Corporation. Baker's presence on the sessions was also a favour to Baker, who was pretty well destitute apparently and could hardly play. Baker went begging in there for work to get drug money. Now spinning: Pat Martino 'East' - Prestige blue label with suspect piano..

A shout-out to the folks on the other side
sidewinder replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well as the Saturday nap is now over its time for a bottle or two of 'Old Speckled Hen' and a spin or three of Blue Note and Mosaic Lps to see through the day, as its p***ing it down outside (well, this is the UK after all..). Weekend greetings from this side of the big blue abyss B-) -
Mike Westbrook: Metropolis - now fully healed!
sidewinder replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Re-issues
Great - the track on 'Impressed Vol 2' with great Harry Beckett solo whettted my appetite for this. The Neon vinyl is pretty hard to track down so I'll get hold of this CD. I've never been a great fan of the more recent Westbrook LPs but the Derams and the Neons/RCAs are all worth checking out. -
Just listening to the CD of Eddie Jefferson's 'Body and Soul' and its the same decrepid out-of-tune piano from September 1968 courtesy of Mr Schlitten. Funnily enough though, I don't think this would be quite the same hell yeah groovin' CD if Barry Harris was playing an in tune piano !

Kenton Presents Set Going OOP
sidewinder replied to desertblues's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Now 2 weeks since the yellow invoice arrived saying set 3565 has been shipped. I'm itching to get my hands on this set. Shouldn't have made that comment about Lon's Mosaics sent by snail mail.. -
Fair enough ! B-)

Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band (Well, they were slightly jazz inspired.. )

Not among the best RRK on Atlantic in my personal opinion, 'Rahsaan Rahsaan', 'Left and Right' and 'Inflated Tear' are stronger.
-
Most definitely. Side 1 of tht one is a killer and side 2 is no slouch.. At the moment listening to Elington/Mingus/Roach 'Money Jungle' on the UK UA mono LP.

My 'Clifford Brown Memorial Album' has this combo (Lexington DG side 1, NY USA DG side 2).

A lot of this Muse material was reissued here in the UK a few years ago on Camden as 2CD set compilations. They are the biz ! Before they went out of print I was able to pick up the Kenny Barron, Red Rodney, Cedar Walton and one with Al Cohn and Phil Woods. They sounded pretty good too and could be picked up for about £7-8 ish. The Barron and Walton, in particular, get quite a bit of airplay at my place.

The piano tuning is a problem on a whole host of Prestiges from this vintage. There's the same problem on one of the Cedar Waltons ('Cedar', I think) and at least one other of the Martinos ('Strings'). Adds a certain period charm.. B-) Good excuse for me to bring out the vinyl of 'East' this weekend. I like all of the Martinos of this vintage. At least the piano tuning wasn't an issue on 'El Hombre', thank goodness..

The Saturday evening features that Morton occasionally does for Radio 3 are usually very good. I recall an excellent half hour on Booker Little in the series 'Significant Others' and also an excellent review he did of Andrew Hill's 'Grass Roots' Conn when it came out. Up there with the late Charles Fox in my opinion in terms of jazz learnedness.

Interesting lineup. A couple of the groups (Ernst Reijseger Systeme D, Ian Ballamy/Stian Carstensen duo) were featured at Bath earlier this year (I have the feeling that Dennis Rollins was too - or maybe it was at Cheltenham). The Billy Jenkins should be a hoot - his shows are usually a good laugh. Acoustic Ladyland's tribute to Hendrix was featured heavily at Cheltenham.

'Katy Lied' and 'Royal Scam' are probably my favourites. I've got some of the vinyl but also the green boxed CD set, which includes most of their older stuff plus a neat booklet. Recommended ! They were way ahead of the pack when most of this stuff came out - using some really hip jazz players on the sessions. Wayne, Victor Feldman etc.

High 20Cs here in Southern England, a nice Indian Summer, best weather of the year. Good enough to hit the coast and take a swim in the sea yesterday..

Bill Potts - 'The Jazz Soul of Porgy & Bess'
sidewinder replied to sidewinder's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Sorry to hear that Larry. This copy is a mono one too and looks like a mid to late 60s reissue in the UA 'Wall to Wall Sound' series (or whatever it was called). Front cover has what I can only describe as 'lower profile of a posing tart in purple stilletos' (for want of a description - unfortunately I can't scan it). Both cover and LP are absolutely mint. Just a bit of static which was much reduced after the soak in alcohol. The shop I bought this from typically has lots of not-so-great condition LPs at outrageous prices so it was a shock to find this one there. Its the sort of place you find blue label blue notes for about £35.. -
How about a Lexington & Concord? (Where's the Groucho Marx smiley when I need it...). What a weird concept. I guess side 1 would have a Blakey/Silver session. Side 2 something from Scott Hamilton and Warren Vache..
-
Know the feeling ! Donald Byrd 'House of Byrd' (RCA Prestige twofer) 'Solo Monk' (Australian CBS)
-
Up for input on the quartet date (I don't have the Sam Rivers twofer).
-
I've got the Jack Wilson on a Toshiba LP. Never been totally bowled over with this session but will have to give it another spin and a second chance..
-
Lineup for 'unissued quintet date' lines up with sides 3 and 4 of the 'One For One' twofer.

Just checking my LPs: Your listings for 'Andrew' and 'Compulsion' are correct.
