  1. Agreed ! Never tire of this one.
  2. This post almost stopped my pacemaker... No sweat - there is another pressing ‘in the works’. Having said that, I suspect that this will not be one to hang around too long on.
  3. Good as the Columbia box is with the extra CD, I’m particularly fond of this Mosaic too.
  4. CD2 of this behemoth - the dance sessions.
  5. Live at the Tivoli Restaurant, Morecambe. Exotic !
  6. 21st Feb 1959 according to the Good Book. There are a number of photos of that gig included, including of Fowlkes, Newman and Wess. Birthday Greetings Larry K. !
  7. Esoteric 10” Savoy 10” Debut 10”
  8. Absolutely nothing to do with politics.
  9. A better comparison is probably Belgium and not the US - similarly overcrowded country. Belgium’s per capita rate is even higher than ours. Not helped of course by all the idiots going to the pubs, soccer, Cheltenham Races etc. back in early March and ignoring all advice, before these places were locked down.
  10. More likely to have ended up on Columbia I think.
  11. Damn - sorry to hear this. May he RIP. Always thought of him as one of the ‘young guys’. Wondering If I ever caught him live... I think I caught him once with Phil Woods but not sure.
  12. Around 10 years ago it was at the much higher rate. Around the time of the big Financial Crash, when the US economy fell off a cliff. The rate does vary over the decades though. Back in the 1980s it was not far off what it is now.
  13. An extremely good final recording.
  14. I will definitely get this Mosaic - once it reaches the Boys in Barcelona. No rush though - I have 12 CDs of Maynard to get through. The days of 1.8 to 2 dollars to the pound seem like another era now though. Shame..
  15. Track 13 sounds topical - Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins with Kenny Dorham and Junior Cook from the ‘Cedar’ LP on Prestige.’Come Sunday’.
  16. I never heard much of his work but this seems particularly sad considering his more recent acclaim and higher critical profile. RIP.
  17. Considering some of the rubbish out-of-tune instruments Cedar had to tolerate over the years, with some featured on recordings, it must have been bad for him to mention it. Prestige ‘house’ piano circa 1968 being a particular nadir (although that instrument does have a certain period charm).
  18. Not sure if the first Blakey group I saw had Ponomarev or Bill Hardman on trumpet but otherwise the lineup was the same. Bobby Watson very much featured as Musical Director. I need to get hold of vinyls of those Concords and kicking myself for passing in the past !
  19. Hopefully JazzMessengers get this one in in the not too distant future. Not sure I want to risk/splash out on the US postal options and the import tax sting.
  20. That would count as my earliest too.
  21. The Ronnie’s gig may be cancelled but Mike W. was on BBC Radio 4 this morning paying tribute to Duke’s Birthday with a short live snippet from his baby grand. Good to hear !
