  1. Remember him from back in the day on the BNBB. Even bought CDs from him !
  2. Pre-decimal heaven !
  3. I have a feeling that I saw Peanuts Hucko guesting with the Dutch Swing College Band circa 1977.
  4. Bill - If you register with Smalls you can check out the live feeds for performances both there and Mezzrow (assuming you can stay awake that late !)
  5. The cover shot is an absolute classic - so many great swing era players from a variety of backgrounds.
  6. Gotta love that 27 shillings and eleven old pence sticker !
  7. It’s an extended band track, a Bob Mintzer composition and featuring Steve Marcus on tenor. Listening to it now - definitely worth having.
  8. Re: the ‘Big 18’ 2LP set. It is the UK reissue from 1974. Heard bits of it on the radio at time of issue, which makes me feel an old git !
  9. Very impressed with the quality of the section work in the band on this release. What a way to bow out with your final recording !
  10. Pipe and slippers Art but a very pleasant album.
  11. I would guess that this one would be on the radar as a potential future ‘Tone Poet’?
  12. Music Matters 2x45rpm couch potato keep-fit edition.
  13. This thread has got me to dig the Music Matters out. Outstanding ! I’ve never heard the mono BN but I fail to see how they could improve much on this one, it has bags of dynamism and the latin percussion jumps out of the right speaker. Sorry if I come across as a Hoffman Maniac . Is it worth $100 - probably, if the originals are fetching more than that. Absolutely blows away every CD version I have ever heard of this !
  14. There’s always the ‘Succotash’ Liberty era reissue I guess..
  15. I have a Music Matters 2x45 rpm of this one - pretty good. Strange that good condition mono originals of this title seem so scarce.
  16. This is an excellent release - one to add to the list of the Rich Band’s best and once again, they deliver big time at Ronnie Scotts ! Sound is excellent and the atmosphere of a Rich gig at Ronnie’s is well captured. I saw the band there a few times some years previous to this and it was always spectacular and played to packed multiple shows. Note - there is a 1CD version with about 14 tracks and 70 minutes of music and also a ‘collectors’ 2CD version which adds an additional 30 min track. 2LP and 3LP options are also offered by Gearbox.
  17. From the Herbie big box..
  18. Picked up this one on Gearbox - very nice. Opted for the 2CD ‘Executive’ version with the long bonus track.
  19. Yeah - great Tubby Hayes session, in chaotic circumstances. RRK’s solo on the ballad feature (without mouthpiece) is astonishing and must have dropped some jaws in the studio. First heard it on the RRK Complete Mercury box.
  20. In Italy, of all places ! Sign of the times...
  21. (Maitre d.) ‘It’s only wafffffffer thin.... (Creosote) Oh go on then......... “ Priceless !
