  1. Teddy Reig rules !
  2. Really sorry to hear that, I will spin some of his fine music on the Mood label and a bit of UJRE. R.I.P.
  3. UK Mercury mono. Great sonics.
  4. Thanks for that. Fascinating - listening to the last (electrified) session on the Ian Hamer ‘Acropolis’ you can hear some of that influence on the overall vibe. Maybe Alan Branscombe was also listening to George Cables !
  5. Marc Myers has posted links to the 2008 Jack Sheldon documentary film on his blog. Definitely worth checking out !
  6. There’s always the option of hopping onto a plane to Tokyo with a couple of suitcases and high-tailing it to Disk Union..
  7. Just dug my copy of the ‘Jacknife’ twofer out. No noticeable wow, in fact the sonics seem fine. In fact a good twofer all round, with Ira Gitler’s sleeve notes included. One annoying quirk of this copy though is that sides 1 and 4 are on one LP and 2 and 3 on the other. It’s also on the Mosaic McLean of course - haven’t compared against that. Good reminder on this session - don’t spin it anywhere near enough. Can never get too much of Jackie Mac !
  8. The LT-series vinyl twofer? Will check mine but I think it is OK.
  9. Thanks for the recommendation !
  10. I was impressed also that his listening list in hospital, as mentioned in your book, included Woody Shaw on cassette. I wonder what could have been - Blackstone Legacy?
  11. I hear a heck of a lot of Stan Getz’s lyrical influence in Tubby’s playing - especially in the later period. Some Hank Mobley in there too. All part of the unique, personal mix that he put together.
  12. Taken from a couple of nice BBC Radio ‘Jazz Club’ sessions. Excellent Beeb recording for FM stereo.
  13. Interesting that these are with no box or booklet. I remember mention on this forum years ago that there were quite a few ‘disk only’ sets or partials out there believed to be as a result of theft from the manufacturer. Presumably that would apply to these?
  14. Still got my (corner clipped) vinyl of that one somewhere !
  15. Good blast from the past. Have it on vinyl !
  16. Surprising that they still use those overloaded shoulder bags. Over here it is postal vans and if not, usually local to the sorting office, a custom trolley. Good luck with the retirement !
  17. In earlier years, they also had a section on jazz LP reviews.
  18. In addition to perusing Simon’s excellent Hayes bio I have also re-watched this DVD today, which is valuable viewing for anyone who is enjoying the Fontana set.
  19. Looking at the font, ‘Gramophone’ would indeed be a good suggestion.
  20. Played today, outstanding music and in many ways even surpassing the Fontana studio material. Little Theatre, Rochester in 1966. A playing peak - the wheels were about to come off though.
