  1. That Elvis story is in Simon Spillett’s excellent Tubby Hayes bio I think. Just been re-reading it.
  2. That LP must have been one of the Tempo label’s best sellers, TAP 22 I think. Rare example of one of their releases being reissued on the ‘Music For Pleasure’ label and thereby purchasable at Woolworths !
  3. Good find. Not one that I can recall ever seeing in that version. Never knew of that one and will check it out too !
  4. This one again - very enjoyable.
  5. Reminds me that I saw Dulfer with his band play live at the Zermatt ski resort - an unlikely but interesting booking !
  6. Wewerka Archive More Wewerka That cover art is up there with 32Jazz !
  7. and my favourite (although I like them all).
  8. A bargain, considering that an OP of ‘Shades’ just sold for £2500 (so I’m told) !
  9. The booklet says MZCE 3010 MZCE 3011 on the bottom, if that helps. ‘Japanese Muzak’ - that’s a new label to me . Miles ‘On The Corner’ box, CD5
  10. It is a Japanese ‘Enja Classics’ release dated 2005. Notes are in Japanese and English, the Enja logo on the CD is in German !
  11. This is the UK Columbia sleeve, not the German Philips. The LPs were issued around the same time, the UK one in the Lansdowne series. I prefer the UK sleeve (and the Japanese CD is a perfect facsimile).
  12. Japanese Enja CD I picked up at Disk Union (thank you, kinuta). Outstanding mastering, sonics and mini sleeve repro.
  13. Turtle CD - More a Joy Marshall release with Beck’s group backing. Valuable release though.
  14. Persusing the late, lamented Miles Kington’s tribute site I came across this interesting and perceptive article:- Miles Kington on Rendell/Carr
  15. Totally relate to what Ed has said above. I will be going for this set - among other things it will make a fantastic continuous play on the USB stick in the car, which I already do with a number of beloved Mosaic sets. Listening to some of the Hank 60s LPs over the weekend emphasised just how brilliantly lyrical and inventive he was through that period - even though some of the material had elements of compromise.
  16. After re-jigging the speakers, first time I have heard Jymie Merritt’s Ampeg bass on this 3CD set in total clarity.
  17. Nucleus ‘Alleycat’ (Vertigo Spaceships label). Remembering Ian Carr, who left us just over 10 years ago.
  18. Green label DG stereo
  19. More Hank - Liberty blue/white
