  1. Liberty blue/white stereo. This has critic Alun Morgan’s initials on the back, a Gramophone Magazine archival review copy I think.
  2. Every BGO issue I have heard (and in my case it is mainly their British jazz reissues) has been first rate. These Farrells are on my list.
  3. Cast-off cover art from a planned Joe Farrell CTI session?
  4. Blue label - sonically superb.
  5. Thanks for that. Very odd that it has never been issued on CD. Ric Colbeck on Fontana comes into that category too.
  6. Trunk CD featuring Harold McNair - short but sweet.
  7. Has it come out on CD? Only aware of a bootleg vinyl reissue of this one.
  8. Or direct from the horse’s mouth at Cherry Red for £29.99, which is a good Europe option.
  9. The ‘Play Bach’ LPs are ones I can almost guarantee coming across in charity shops (on Decca I think). Very popular over here. RIP - regularly seen on TV over here back in the day/60s and 70s.
  10. Impressed Vol 2 British Jazz compilation.
  11. ‘80s Works’ - Are these the same masterings as per Toshiba TOCJ series? Agree that this is all a bit of a yawn..
  12. Major Minor, stereo. It gets a lukewarm review in the book. Can’t say I agree !
  13. Yes Soulpope, it is. Good to be reminded of it. I am finding that one of the side effects of this ‘Galactic Ramble’ book is that having seen a review of vintage UK items such as this, there is an irresistible urge to dig out the corresponding vinyl.
  14. Eddie Bert/George Barrow front line - great !
  15. Fontana, stereo, sample copy. Lovely album, ace backing band including Ian Carr, Ray Warleigh, Harold McNair, Kenny Wheeler.
  16. Joe Loss ran a pretty commercial band that was popular with dancers and commonly seen on cheap record labels e.g. MFP. Sort of like an anti-matter version of Evans’ typical working environments.
  17. My tome arrived - one heck of a compendium. In terms of UK modern jazz coverage over the period in question, there is good coverage of the key LP releases plus quite a number of real obscurities e.g. stuff on Saydisk, private issues, library LPs etc. There doesn’t seem to be coverage of EPs which means that, for example, rare but important releases by Shake Keane are missed. These are minor quibbles though - the whole thing is quite breathtaking in its detail and includes valuable contemporary reviews and advertising visuals, which set the scene nicely. Printing quality is also excellent. Anyone who is also into rock/prog rock and folk is going to have a feast with this book !
  18. Sorry to hear this, glad I got to see him. A superb musician - RIP.
  19. Yes, the ‘Eloquent’ LP is a dutch reissue of ‘From Vienna’ released in 1978. Purchased by me, I recall, as a Mole deletion.
