  1. Lives up to the billing !
  2. Great, I’ll check it out - I know Fore Street. The shop is no longer there, last time I went past it was a fashion emporium. For sure the road will be still in situ but I’ll bet that access for viewings now curtailed.
  3. Go for it ! Have ordered it and will post impressions once I have fork-lifted it through the door !
  4. Is that ‘Rooster Records’? Never been but will give it a shot next time I’m in the vicinity. Exeter used to have a great jazz LP outlet on Gandy St, the road which JK Rowling modelled that congested cobbled Harry Potter shop street on (reputedly). I kid you not but under the racks of West Coast jazz there was a pristine section of the old Roman Road into Exeter which priveledged punters like me could view on request !
  5. Kings Cross ? - Could be an expensive outing as I guess Gearbox Records is just around the corner as well. If this carries on maybe Mole will resurrect themselves on Grays Inn Road.. We could do with something like that Out West. Never been the same since the great little jazz specialist shop closed in Bath. Having said that, vinyl is on a roll in Bridport and Plymouth !
  6. The new expanded hardback of this near-1000 page tome has just been issued. Covers reviews for UK album releases over the 1960s through to mid-70s, including old historical reviews as well as new review insights. In addition to rock/prog/folk/blues there is also good modern jazz coverage plus more limited ‘trad’. Tony Higgins of ‘Jazz Britannia’ fame has apparently contributed the jazz content so could be very interesting ! Anyone ordered this ?
  7. From what I read he retreated with the Mrs to a farm smallholding in the 80s so was probably pretty self-sufficient. Pretty radical move though.
  8. If I gave in to everything winking at me from Honest Jon’s site I wouldn’t be able to get through the door and would be relegated to my garage (in addition to being bankrupt).. Having said that, the LP of ‘Discipline 27 II’ looks tempting. The Man Himself signed my Liberty of that one !
  9. 1966 release on UK Columbia, stereo version.
  10. A regular and welcome sight over here on TV during the 70s during his LSO stint. It will seem odd that he is no longer with us. RIP.
  11. Not sure I like the vocals on this one !
  12. That news clinches it for me - wonderful ! Malcolm Addey rules..
  13. I’ve always gone steady state transistors and more than happy with it. As long as the power transistors are well matched, fast and up to the job, the results are excellent. Had an allergy to thermionic valves since our old family B&W TV set (10” ) in the 60s needed endless kicks to sort out the scan and/or endless repairs ! Looks more like an electric storage heater !
  14. Heck, I’d forgot about that, have the King LP of that one too. So - 3LPs and one CD. Do I really need a ‘Tone Poet’?
  15. I have a copy of that old LT release - the UK pressing I think. At the time of release I thought the cover art for that series was cool, as time went on I was less of a fan. Fairly neutral about it now. Happy with the 180g (or is it 200g?) ‘Wally’ so I’ll probably pass.
  16. Indeed ! Using that logic I guess that Bobby Hutcherson ‘Natural Illusions’ on Applause = crate of Leibfraumilch
  17. Mine picked up many years ago when prices were only semi-daft. It is in very good nick, amazingly.
  18. Sorry porcy - I’m sure that with your Blue Notes you can retaliate with interest..
