  1. Mosaic Count Basie Roulette Studio Recordings set, LP2 - 'Chairman of the Board'.
  2. Happy Birthday !
  3. I think I will stock up too - and the Tokyo ones look like a good place to start. The 'Night Flight To Dakar' 2CD was very enjoyable - I remember this one coming out on vinyl and passing on it. With this lot coming out and Mosaic doing the Beehive box set all we need to get back into the swing of it are multicoloured platform shoes, checked flares, gold chain bling and aviator shades !
  4. Next up - Stanley Turrentine 'Look Out !' (BN 47W63rd DG mono) 'Gil Evans & Ten' (Esquire, RVG)
  5. The 'Ensadinado' is great. Picked my copy up in Melbourne. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure. Spinning - Tommy Flanagan/John Coltrane 'The Cats' (New Jazz DG mono). Lots of copies of this have noise issues but this one is flawless. I need to stock up on a few of the Rearwards. Have most of them but one or two gaps..
  6. I think 'More Smiles' was released over here some years after it was recorded in the late 60s. 1974 I believe. Came and went pretty fast here in the U.K.
  7. Hank Jones/Oliver Nelson 'Happenings' (Impulse) Hank featured on the Baldwin Electronic Harpsichord - period piece but not without interest.
  8. Freddie Hubbard 'High Blues Pressure' (UK Atlantic)
  9. Yep, another band who were one of the highlights at Swanage last Summer. I enjoyed their performance at the Methodist Chapel. Did Trish Clowes tell the story of her tenor and how it got its name 'Shirley'?
  10. For me - 'Gerry Mulligan Meets The Sax Giants Vol 2' on U.K. Verve and Clarke/Boland 'More Smiles' on MPS/BASF
  11. Theolonious Monk (Swing LP spelling) The Mad Monk Normo Tebbitt
  12. After messing around this morning reconfiguring Naim Powerlines and getting significant additional soundstage and resolution improvement on vinyl and CD it's.. Fats Sadi 'Ensadinado' (Saba, stereo). One of the best sounding LPs I have.. to be followed by the Francy Boland 'Going Classic/Jazz Joint' on German Vogue (2LPs).
  13. Nov 16th concert should be a good one. All booked !
  14. Booker Ervin 'Heavy !!!' (Prestige blue label, stereo)
  15. Are you guys doing a double act touring the northern clubs ? Last night at an unspeakable hour, glad to have caught a set by Jack Walrath's Quintet at Smalls via the internet, preceded by Teodross Avery's Quartet. Great to see that Walrath is still in fine form and playing challenging music that is far from the current norm. Long may he continue to do so !
  16. A great 2LP set ! Spinning - Pat Martino 'Strings !' (Prestige blue label, stereo)
  17. Excellent - glad to hear it. A fine vinyl box set.
  18. Yep, they were very good at Swanage back in July. Ant Law was playing his custom guitars back then too. Jason Rebello playing particularly well at the moment. Sirkis flew in from Paris especially for that gig. Dedication !
  19. That sounds promising !
  20. Yet another opportunity for me to boot myself in the *ss for not picking up that £10 copy in Mole Jazz - even though the dust and crud on it would rigger asthma at 1000 yards.
  21. I'm quite a fan of those Sanchez Columbia CDs. OK, some of the tracks seem to be aiming at the MOR market but there is some solid stuff in there as well, particularly when Edsel Gomez is in the lineup. I guess it helps if you are a fan of the Puerto Rican style. Incidentally, I caught Sanchez with Hilton Ruiz at Birdland the night they were recording the Candid 'Live at Birdland'. Not one of Sanchez's better nights, perhaps. There were about 15 of us in the audience and Alan Bates was on the next table ! Remember seeing him on baritone in George Coleman's Octet ! Have to say that the Bobby Watson & Horizon releases of this era (maybe slightly before it) are a standout. The Blue Note releases in particular.
  22. The Monk 'It Club' vinyl 3LP set seems to have been resurrected in 'Last Chance' !
  23. Glad it's not just me thinking this. In a week of global crazy clown insanity and brexit fallout, this is up right there. Sorry !
