  1. Looks like West Kennett Long Barrow on that photo !
  2. On a sober note I have the book 'Savage Continent' next up in my reading pile. The bit of history they want to sweep under the carpet.
  3. Ah yes, the 'Signals' set. Nice one - will have to snag a copy.
  4. Thad & Mel CD5. Still one of my favourite Mosaics..
  5. I'd like to hear the Hall Overton. I have the Gryce/Jordan on Signal and it comes with a booklet for the students.
  6. Does it do 78s?
  7. Must break open that Ellington set late on today ! Currently - Complete Solid State Thad & Mel, CDs 1-3

Have just played through side 1 of the Vocalion pressing and followed it up with side 1 of the UK Columbia pressing. Dynamics are somewhat better on the Columbia, with more depth and the Vocalion sounds as if there is some top level roll-off, which is not in evidence on the original. Bryan Spring's drums come through with significantly greater clarity and nuance. Having said that, the Vocalion 180g pressing is a bit quieter in terms of surface noise. So - the Columbia wins the shoot-off but the Vocalion doesn't come out of it badly at all.
  9. National Jazz Federation (bands thereof...) League of Gentlemen Monty Python & His Flying Circuses
  10. "Caught In A Train"? Sounds good. 'Barnfield' will be a probable for me - Bridport much more a definite. It will be nice to catch a Westbrook performance in that pleasant resort (good place to retire to).

Can't hear any click around the 7 minute mark on Jaipur' that has been reported for the CD. But maybe I'm half deaf..
  13. The thing that lays hits me about his playing is the intelligence and thoughtfulness that underpins it. Great that this thread has been brought up again !
  14. My favourite is 'Monty Python & The Holy Grail' - live from the Classic, Silbury Hill. Still have it on vinyl. Featuring Vincent Wong, the Sino-Scottish projectionist..

Just had an initial spin through and the sonics sound excellent ! The LP benefitted from a wash in the record cleaning machine beforehand, not unusual for these new 180g pressings. A big thumbs up. Norma Winstone's voice - lovely. I wonder how many copies they have pressed - I can see this one selling out quick.
  16. I like the bit about Mrs Macs B&B place in Manchester. That place features in the Tubby Hayes book !
  17. Lucy Lockett Kitty Fisher Itsy Witsy Spider
  18. Will see if I can make the Barnfield show Frank and also look at heading down to Bridport (which is a bit nearer) for that show as well. Looking forward to some more Westbrook shows this Summer !

My LP has arrived in the mail from Vocalion, so should be some interesting listening over the weekend. Shame it isn't an exact replica sleeve as per the Sawanos, however the price then would probably be at least twice as much.
  20. Same here (and I still have to buy Vol 1!)
  21. Wee Willie Harris Bantu Stephen Biko (Listening to) Rico
  22. All the Best !
