Sounds like you missed the first rebirth, 1990. But the second began around 2011. Link I can't say I've seen brick and mortar stores focused on 8-tracks in the past decade or so, but they're often displayed prominently in the hipster botiques. (I use the term "hipster" pretty loosely. Beyond Brooklyn and Portland, I'm not sure what to call the people in Salt Lake City and Santa Cruz, Mendocino, Seattle...) In that case then it's time to re-launch 'Sabamobil'. The in thing for cool hipsters everywhere. Just the thing to play your Black Forest MPS/Saba jazz tapes on..

That's also pretty well my experience - nothing on the tracking for several days until it got to US point of departure and from then on it was almost like having a GPS fix on the thing !

Same here. I remember a next-door neighbour's house lit by gas and our own had just been converted to that new fangled electric light. 1960s ... but still ! Our street was lit by gas lights in the early and mid fifties, the bloke came round with a long pole morning and night. OMG I sound like the Monty Python Yorkshiremen sketch. Luxury...our paper bag only had 't candle and our mum and dad used to beat us up wi' it before 't breakfast..

That's very welcome news that the Horizon band are back together. Just hope that they tour Europe (even better - the UK) ! I think the last time I saw that band it had Essiet Essiet on bass, in place of Washington. Totally agree that Victor Lewis is very under-rated. Any time that he appears on a bill is usually good enough for me, no matter who it is with.

Yes, JJ Johnson too - also released on CBS. 'Backlash' and 'High Blues Pressure' are my favourites of the Atlantics. 'Backlash' to me almost sounds like a good-ish Hubbard Blue Note session recorded in thin Atlantic sound and with Albert Dailey's piano somewhat out of tune. This 2LP set put out by Atlantic back in the day I've always found a pretty good 'potted highlights' of this stuff..

Wow - I've seen so many negative reviews of this but when I see this appear in Larry's list my curiosity to hear it increases enormously. If ever a session attracted diverse opinions it is this one ! It's an AWESOME record...can't imagine anyone being equivocal about it! Thanks for that ! Had my eyes on the 1000 Yen version in the racks and will pick up a copy forthwith !

That bit about Handel appearing in concerts in a requisitioned coal bunker in Clerkenwell was intriguing !
