  2. I've obviously inadvertently happened upon the official 'bah humbug' thread..
  3. Only seeems like yesterday when they had 2 copies of the complete Jazz In Paris juddernaut behind the counter..
  4. I got the Verve book - it is quite the tome. Haven't read much of it yet but there are quite a few LPs I've never seen before in the illustrations (e.g. the Don Sebesky), a lot of material on the JATP/Clef/Norgran years and features on significant artists. Looks pretty nice - good Boxing Day reading for today.

  8. Maybe en-route to Dobells? I've heard stories of him checking the LPs out there.
  9. Great interview. Really wetted my appetite for hearing the Clifford Jordan set !
  10. They were very quick off the mark with their obituary but suspect that they picked up this 'news' on the twittersphere.
  11. After the mother of all storms last night, some very sad news to start the day. I've always thought he was brilliant, from the time I bought that 'Morning' 2LP Savoy set. His music, although exotic, was always totally infused with the blues and played with great feeling. RIP - glad I got the chance to see him (NorthSea, with the Belmondos - even watching him pack his horns away was fascinating). 'Live At Peps' is one of the greatest live albums ever IMO. This year really is starting to feel like the end of an era

  16. He was there in 1999 - the venue was Balboa. Agree that Geller played superbly right through the weekend (hot off the plane from Germany if my memory is right) and with some very varied mid-sized group lineups. A most professional set of performances and an excellent weekend all round. He used to tour a lot here in the UK and it was always good to see him in the jazz listings lineup. Sad news, jazz is a much poorer place without the likes of Mr Geller. RIP.
  17. Saw him in the early 2000s with Lou Donaldson. Great and essential - he was on form. I was right up by the B-3 and noticed that Stevie Winwood was stood next to me groovin' to it with a big smile on his face. Hope that you and the Mrs enjoy it !
