Clifford, I'm only about 10 years late in responding to you on this but are you thinking about Basil Kirchin 'Worlds Within Worlds'? That one came out on UK Columbia (sort of - it never made full release I believe). Or maybe the Terry Durham 'Crystal Telephone' on Deram?

  3. TedR - I can relate completely with that. I still have most of the 'brown' twofers too and would not want to part with them. Not least because of the nice liner notes by Messrs Cuscuna and Lowrie plus various other knowledgable heads and the fine session pictures. Back in the late 1970s these twofers were the absolute Dog's Bollocks ! I've probably already said that some years ago earlier on in this thread but I don't care..
  4. Sad news - RIP. Seemed to me to ubiquitous in films from the 1970s onwards albeit always in a positive way.
  5. Rodney Marsh Rodders Del Boy
  6. I have the Deram LP. Usually goes for around £100 or so these days, they are certainly 'around'. Gonsalves a bit 'medicated' on this session.
  7. My copy is that America 3LP foldout version too - sounds fine.
  8. Really sorry to hear this (and shocked) . Last time I saw him he was in the piano chair in a Cannonball Adderley tribute group put together by Nat. RIP. Just found this photo of him taken at that particular performance.

  12. Happy Birthday Shawn. Hope it's a good one !
  13. Old Trafford horizontal rain strikes again..
  14. Damp but placid out here. We usually get the wet crap from Cornwall and Devon (attenuated) with a 4-5 hour lag after it hits landfall. That's the main negative of Cornwall and Devon. Too wet ! Sounds like a good day to hit the pub/bookshop/pub-bookshop/coffee shop..
  15. Belated Happy Birthday jazzbo ! Hope you enjoy the well-earned holiday.
  16. UK pressed Prestiges on Esquire, Transatlantic and Xtra were usually pretty good. Some of the UK Decca mono issues on Nixa and Tempo were excellent quality pressings too. Of the Blue Notes - German Liberty pressings were usually excellent, as was (predictably) SABA and the SABA-pressed Prestiges.
  17. Phil Seamen passed on around 1972/73 I think. John Stevens was very active around the 1976 timeframe though, with 'John Stevens' Away'. Sounds like I need to get the 'Major Surgery' CD. Working my way through the Duncan Heining book at the moment. He's done a great job - political discources aside (and they don't overpower the historical British jazz narative but add an interesting commentary/context).
  18. Rain predicted in the West for tomorrow evening and Monday. Wind already picking up a bit round here - a lovely day, nevertheless.
  19. Looks as if it's going to be wet in the West Country next week. My garden is appreciating it.
  20. Tony Williams 'Life Time' (BN NY USA, mono)
  21. I don't think it's been open for that long - it is easy to miss, in one of those narrow lanes off of the main drag. Packed out with Falmouth Uni students spending their grants (or what passes for a grant these days) - good for them. Maybe there is also a market for pubs with jazz vinyl/CD shops?
  22. Must have been when we rolled into this place (combined pub and bookshop, believe it or not..) I thought it looked a bit Hogwartish.
  23. 'Just one more waffer thin box set Mr Creosote...'
  24. Glad to hear it went well - same material as per Newton Abbott I guess. Couldn't get over to St Ives - was press-ganged into an excellent Carribean restaurant do (seafood) and far too much local and obscure real ale (some of it at 8% proof) in various dens of iniquity of Falmouth. Great place !
