Old Trafford horizontal rain strikes again..

Damp but placid out here. We usually get the wet crap from Cornwall and Devon (attenuated) with a 4-5 hour lag after it hits landfall. That's the main negative of Cornwall and Devon. Too wet ! Sounds like a good day to hit the pub/bookshop/pub-bookshop/coffee shop..

UK pressed Prestiges on Esquire, Transatlantic and Xtra were usually pretty good. Some of the UK Decca mono issues on Nixa and Tempo were excellent quality pressings too. Of the Blue Notes - German Liberty pressings were usually excellent, as was (predictably) SABA and the SABA-pressed Prestiges.

Phil Seamen passed on around 1972/73 I think. John Stevens was very active around the 1976 timeframe though, with 'John Stevens' Away'. Sounds like I need to get the 'Major Surgery' CD. Working my way through the Duncan Heining book at the moment. He's done a great job - political discources aside (and they don't overpower the historical British jazz narative but add an interesting commentary/context).

Rain predicted in the West for tomorrow evening and Monday. Wind already picking up a bit round here - a lovely day, nevertheless.

I don't think it's been open for that long - it is easy to miss, in one of those narrow lanes off of the main drag. Packed out with Falmouth Uni students spending their grants (or what passes for a grant these days) - good for them. Maybe there is also a market for pubs with jazz vinyl/CD shops?

Must have been when we rolled into this place (combined pub and bookshop, believe it or not..) I thought it looked a bit Hogwartish.

Glad to hear it went well - same material as per Newton Abbott I guess. Couldn't get over to St Ives - was press-ganged into an excellent Carribean restaurant do (seafood) and far too much local and obscure real ale (some of it at 8% proof) in various dens of iniquity of Falmouth. Great place !

I voted 'on the fence'. The logical person in me says no. However, there have been a couple of strange occurences in the past though in old houses (plus one pub in Cornwall) that I can't fully explain (but maybe it was down to atmospherics and the mind playing tricks). Note though that these were in the UK and not once in North America have I ever had such occurences.

The Vocalion CD release sounded pretty OK to my ears (I have the LP too). So I would say - the booklet ! Plus - Henry's socks seem to have a slightly more psychadelic shade of yellow.
