  2. Shocking news. She certainly had a high profile and strong critical reputation back in the 70s and early 80s. RIP.
  3. Damn - that is really sad news. And asthma too, way too young. I always really liked his playing with Jackie Mac and Woody Shaw/Bobby Hutcherson (on that Montreux recording) and will spin at least one of them today. RIP.
  4. I caught that Phil Woods band with Hal Crook back in 1989/90. Very good trombonist. That band had Jim McNeely just in as replacement for Hal Galper. Crook did quite a bit of arranging for the band, if I remember rightly.
  5. Only the mono original can match it. A very good reissue !
  6. I bought this recently as well, sounds good, a bit different than the Japanese version. The only drawback with this issue is that it is Copy Controlled. My CD player has had 'the op' so that it can deal with these though without skipping, so I'm happy to buy them.
  7. I'm totally with you on your opinion of 'The Flip', Stereojack. Have found this session quite boring for some years and didn't like the recording sound but have been playing it (Conn CD) over the past week and like it more and more. The 'unfinished' feel put me off in the past but I'm hearing past that now. Proof that there ain't no bad Mobley !
  8. Apparently my replacement 'Deluxe' Set arrived today. However they needed a signature so I have to reschedule delivery before I can actually get my mits on it and return the other box back. Damn - I wish they would return to the days when they stocked those discount 'EuroMosaics' (I need the Buddy Rich set ). But instead of pricing them in those useless Euro thingies, keep the pricing in $US for us poor Brits.

  10. It is indeed great ! The innards of my box were damaged on one corner though (box fine) so a replacement is on its way. And as you say, those CDs are an absolute pain to replace in their 'slots'.
  11. Yes, huge respect from here too. Dizzy Gillespie showed very fine judgement in making James Moody his front line partner for all those years. Best wishes Mr Moody !
  12. Probably all repeats but some great stuff coming up ! Dankworth Night BBC4 Stuff the fireworks - I'll be watching this. Who the heck is this 'Johnny Ross' guy featured in Jazz 625 though? Wouldn't be some long-lost Ronnie Ross footage would it? Maybe they meant to say Johnny Scott..
  13. Just checked the Barbara Schwarz discography. Interestingly, the tune was recorded and broadcast on two occasions by the BBC. The first time was a quintet-only session recorded in March 1964 for Jazz 625 with guest vocalist Betty Bennett on a couple of tracks (not this one). The big band session which has the clip was broadcast by Jazz 625 in 1965. Both recordings done at the Marquee Club, Wardour St. No listing in this discography of any studio recordings of the tune in question.
  14. Pete LaRoca 'Basra' RVG CD - for a fiver ! About time I had this on CD.

  18. BBC's 'Jazz Legends' is featuring his music this week - with fellow board member Tom Perchard doing the selections and critical commentary.
  19. Heck, I've got both of those 10" Lps. And the 12" Lexington. I guess that makes me a Horace fanatic.
  20. That would be copyright infringement and I don't think Mosaic or the authors of the booklets would be happy with that. Er - You didn't think I was being serious I hope? Not really, no; just thought I'd mention it More importantly, the guy in the car in front of you won't be happy when you slam into his rear end because you're too busy reading a Mosaic booklet on your dashboard satnav to notice that he just put on the brakes. Whilst trying to double check the sax lineup for the 'zz' tracks in the Maynard Ferguson set, perhaps?
  21. Looks like my 'Deluxe' box is in the mail from Amazon. If the tracker is right I should get hold of it this weekend. :rsmile:
  22. Have a good one !
  23. Happy Birthday !
  24. And not to forget that they are packed to the gunnels with salt too. That stuff is the hidden killer ! The one thing I do enjoy though is the occasional fish & chips. Delish ! Not to be eaten every day though.
