  2. Not really. After MP's duck moat houses and Jacquie Smith's hubby's porn bill, this is actually good value added spending.
  3. Mine's in the mail. I'm looking forward to comparing with the NY USA mono.
  4. He he he ! I was wondering how long it would be before this one was flagged up on this site. Lots of silly season spin like this being put out at the moment. They are preparing the sheep (ie us) for the October cuts. Maybe that Parliamentary Jazz Group (take a bow - John Prescott and Ken Clarke, MPs) sanctioned it?
  5. Several weeks on - I'm still shocked by this. Martin's performance at Swanage was one of the best I've ever seen from him - absolutely first rate. Shocking how all of this can disappear so fast. Like you Bill, I saw Martin quite a few times over the years and he was alwaysa pleasure to hear. Very informative/respectfull obituary appeared last week in The London Times - but thanks to Ol Rupe's Paywall we can't all share it.
  6. Took some finding, now OOP. Memo to self - do not leave it so late next time. :blush2:

It was indeed an LA-area local programme and Dick Bock's Pacific Jazz Label also provided support (inc. artists), which is why you get the 'latest' Pac Jazz releases for the artists plugged on the shows. For example, Gerald Wilson on his show gets his 'latest' issue (either Moment Of Truth' or 'Portraits' - can't remember) plugged. True period piece !

Gary Markas was the Director, I think. At least according to the TCB Films issue.
  9. Too true - I'll dig it out
  10. Well - I can only speak for myself but don't recall seeing Jack Parnell on TV doing a purely jazz thing for at least since the late 1960s (and I wouldn't have known about earlier appearances). However, his dance orchestra was on the 'box' a lot. Especially stuff that was produced by ATV for ITV, as he was the musical director ! Nice obit in The Times today too - but that is behind the paywall
  11. Remember seeing that Buddy Rich/Animal drum battle when it was first broadcast. Jacl Parnell and his band also on the TV a heck of a lot from the 60s through to the 80s. Even on many of the children's shows ! I think I remember reading that his small group was also on the bill for the opening night of Ronnie Scott's first club in Gerrard St (where he was memorably introduced by Ronnie as doing his "first jazz gig since the Seige of Mafeking"). RIP Mr Parnell.

  14. and it's on the JJ Johnson Columbia Mosaic box set ! Like most of the sessions on that box, recorded at Columbia's 30th St studios, so excellent sound.
