I've had a few problems getting on today too. Nothing catastrophic.

upcoming jazz crusaders set?
sidewinder replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
So what has been out on single CDs that's not in the box? So far I have these: This one, the CD reissue of Lighthouse 66, already seems hard to come by: I have the big band LP (Talk That Talk) somewhere, didn't listen to it in along time. Have the album with Les McCann and the Lighthouse 69 ever been on CD? And has anybody here heard that Nighthawks single? Just ordered that Lighthouse '68 album from Amazon - and the other Lighthouse one too. I've got the 'Lighthouse '69' on Japanese Pacific Jazz vinyl. By my reckoning, its only the 'Chile Con Soul' that I am missing now. And judging from king ubu's comments, I need to get hold of it ! -
Tony Crombie Big Band 'Atmosphere' (UK Columbia green label, mono) - With Tubby Hayes featured prominently.

Man, that's insane ! I'll have to put on my 'best librarian' voice next time I try to get hold of an OOP Mosaic.

Happy Birthday from me too !

Meaning, of course, the famous Farlow Concert Band, also. That's the one

So where's that Johnny Richards you promised me? Sadly, I don't think they had the Johnny Richards in stock. The rest of the Selects they had were in-print sets including McCoy Tyner and Onzy Matthews. The Richards is really good, IMO

Ah, the days of the Zweitausendeins box set sale! I still haven't finished working my way through all those sets... Ha ! Your not the only one - I only got a couple of CDs into the Evans 'Fantasy' set and really must get to grips with that one. Sure do miss those great Zweitausendeins deals (hit its peak with the Universal Mosaics at about 35 Euros each - Eldridge, Tal, Mulligan Concert Band, Jazztet). We'll never see anything like that one again.

Hope you get the Pacific Jazz Trios ! There are still some out there - I came out of London's HMV Oxford St last week with the Pacific Jazz Trios, Dexter Gordon and good ol' Freddie Slack. A great day, for sure. :rsmile: and they even had a copy of Baby Face Willette 'Face To Face' for £4 (snagged that too).

Great book - not to be missed. I've read it about 5 or 6 times now.

I'll have to get hold of that Alan Plater book. Didn't realise there was mention of Joe Harriott in there. Must also give the 'Personal Portrait' LP on UK Columbia a spin again. Let down a bit by some of the string arrangements I think - a bit 60s MOR, by David Mack I think. The 'Fidel' from 'That's The Noise' (Ace of Clubs) was on my BFT disk some time ago (60? - can't remember). Stan Tracey is inspired on that track, even though there is an out of tune piano.

I'm raising a beer (Ruddles County) to you this moment Guy, in respect. Hope you have a wonderful birthday ! May the cool jazz vinyl spin endlessly today in 'Chez Brownie'.

LF: Windows Vista Experiences, Pro Or Con
sidewinder replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I've just bought a new Compaq laptop with Vista on it and they are doing a 'Windows 7 Upgrade' thingie, supposedly a freebie. The postage & package etc. and media costs £21 for UK users though. What a con ! I will have to bite the bullet though. Wonder what they are charging for this 'freebie' in the US? Check to see if you can download the install files and burn the install CD yourself. Don't think that option is available. Is it in the US? -
Saw him play once in a Dizzy Gillespie 'reunion' big band. The section also had John Faddis, Art Farmer and Snookie Young ! Not sure whether Conte or Pete Candoli was in there too.

Shake Keane 'That's The Noise' (Ace of Clubs, mono) John Surman/John Warren 'Tales of the Algonquin' (Deram, stereo)

They have cold Winter nights in Rome? With you though on that comment. Sometimes its nice to haul one of the near-virgin big boxes down from the shelf.

The first ones I saw were in a rack at the record shop in ther RFH Foyer back around 1983/84. Picked up Joe Henderson 'Inner Urge' that night and subsequently bought dozens of them, which I've still got. They were a real bolt from the blue - rare titles that the Blue Note starved Brit of that era thought they would , ever see. Especially after the demise of the domestic 'rainbow series' releases from UA.
