  1. I hear that you are to blame for the recent Swiss currency instabilities !
  2. Sad to hear - sounds like London has totally lost the plot (it's a while since I was in town). For the first time that I can recall, the regions now have significantly better selection as far as jazz is concerned. Prices always were insane for vinyl in London - other than the late-lamented Mole and the old Honest Jon's that is.
  3. Gordon Brown Ed Millipede David Millipede
  4. Last time I was around there it was just 'Vinyl Exchange' or whatever they are called (it's always been closed every time I've passed it ). The place near the Market that used to be a branch of Honest Jon's years ago stopped doing jazz/soul LPs and these days peddles skimpy tops for bimbos. 'Fopp' on the High Street also closed down I believe. Shame.
  5. Have they shifted from the old Portobello Road location? Strange - never heard about that. 'Intoxica' is also located on Portobello. They used to have an amazing (but very, very expensive) modern/free jazz selection in the basement with some great rarities but I guess that has now been sold off as their web site doesn't list jazz any more. At one time you could skim through rare Lexington Blue Notes, Sun Ra hand-painted Saturns, Rendell-Carr Columbias etc, all at eye-watering £.
  6. Yep, I saw that one. About £250 I think. Not the greatest of sleeves, didn't check the vinyl. Still, just to even see a copy is amazing.
  7. I also don't have the Washington either - unlikely to go for it too I guess. Once my latest 'presciouses' arrive, I'm only missing the Peterson/DeFranco, Ray Brown and the Teagarden I think. Any movers and shakers amongst that batch? I keep the boxes though ! I didn't go for the Washington when I saw it because I had all the material. I have all the Mercury box sets, so I'm a big fan just haven't gone for the single releases . . . . Get the Teagarden (you can get it on iTunes if you do downloading) Thanks Jazzbo and Ubu for the rec - I'll pick this one up at some time (in the 'old' CD format when I can find it). Must have the booklet !
  8. Heavily depleted over here - London isn't a patch on what it used to be for jazz vinyl 5 years ago, never mind 10 years ago. Nevertheless, I have a couple of places I check out in my local vicinity, much more convenient.
  9. I think I picked mine up for about 9 Euros from zweitausendeins, back when they had that amazing Fantasy box set sale some years ago. It has some Alonzo Levister material that is not on the big 10CD Mingus Debut box set, among other things. Definitely worth rooting for at $15 !

  13. Did you have to mention that one? I can't get it out of my damn head now. Aaaaaghh....
  14. I'd second that. An essential 60s Mobley session - although it does seem to have its fair number of detractors.

  19. A good day to fill in a couple of gaps today - The Meade Lux Lewis 'Cat House Piano' and Jacquet 'Kid and the Brute' have now been acquired. :rsmile:

  21. Up again for this fine thread. Happened to see this very picture in a Brussels art gallery earlier this year and was scratching my head wondering where the heck I saw it before. Now I know.

  23. Yes, the one time I've been there (2005 or 2006) I found it oppressive. Especially going between the main halls when there were headline acts featured at some of them. It was a fascinating experience, some great shows and I really liked some of the merchandise stands (Blue Note/EMI had a whole shop to itself - just about the whole Conn range at mid-price for example) but the battle up and down the halls was a real downer and worthy of a rugby scrum ! Enjoyed having a look around central Rotterdam though and checking out the vinyl haunts.
