  1. Thanks for posting this - a lovely house she has there. "In 1991, the farmhouse burned down, probably from a lightning strike, while she was touring in Canada, she said." I'm sure I saw her on that tour - with Harvey Schwartz I think.
  2. Back in action - Gerald Wilson Orchestra 'On Stage' (Pacific Jazz blue label, mono)
  3. Still higher than 20C here. Much of last week was unbearably humid, especially at night. North/South divide? Incidentally, I hear that the UK is exporting lots of electricity over the Channel at the moment to the French, who have been totally overloaded for air-con demand and have much of their nuclear capacity out of action due to power worker strikes. I think they owe us one.
  4. Johnny Hodges Mr Hodges The Rev. Timothy Farthing
  5. Yeah, it was a very British type of humour mocking the many subtleties of class distinctions here and the (often strained) interactions between them. Lloyd and Croft were absolute masters at that genre.
  6. Any other dates in the South? I have the feeling he's booked in at Ronnie Scotts in London around that time. Wish he would do a Bristol or Bath gig !
  7. That's a brief clip of Cannonball and the Quintet playing live at the Monterey Fest I believe. Joe Zawinul is also quite recognisable. I always look out for that clip every time it is repeated on TV.
  8. Donald Harrison Harrison Ford Edsel Ford
  9. Combine night-time conditions with zero vis out of the cockpit due to severe storm plus (and we don't know this) the possibility that weather radar was out of action and possibly main flight instruments too. They would then be effectively flying blind with high pilot stress/high workload so the scenario doesn't seem unlikely - at least for me.
  10. Certainly seem to indicate a loss of situational awareness out of the cockpit - possibly along with lack of awareness/invalid indication of altitude and air speed, with the autopilot decoupled, reversionary manual control in use and with the chief pilot tucked up in the back asleep and with the co-pilots at the controls (I believe that Air France's findings seem to indicate this). Findings so far point to a tragic sequence of events, which taken together cumulatively increased the risk of catastrophe.
  11. Totally agree with you Clifford re: Barbara and Ingrid. I saw that 'Sleepthief' group in concert at Birmingham Conservatoire earlier this year. Ingrid is a highly original stylist on the tenor and one of the most interesting - and prolific - artists on the UK scene.

  13. Roadkill it is then !
  14. Yeah - great stuff. I'm itching to hear some Cedar on my deck. Must get hold of Vol 2 of this one.
  15. Cleopatra Paul Gonsalves Tubbs
  16. Mr T - It will be a 45rpm EP I believe with an instrumental version of the music from the 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors' movie. Tubby and his band of 1964 vintage (with Jimmy Deuchar and Alan Ganley) appear in a 15-20 minute segment - I have the movie but have not heard the EP yet (Trunk haven't released it but there's some advance information on the Trunk Records website). Limited to 666 copies when it does appear.
  17. Yeah, I've got that particular pressing too. The original was on Tempo. CD player now behaving itself at least for now. It's the damn puck ! (replacement on order)
  18. And therefore blamable (along with G Brown esq.) for everything that is wrong with the world.
  19. Suffering severe deprivation without my deck - and the CD player has packed in.
  20. If he wins, this place will be unbearable for the rest of the year. You're not kidding. Wimbledon; the sport for people who don't like sport. Adopts Ron Manager voice: "Wimbledon, isn't it? Henman Hill, strawberries and cream, Cliff Richard, first British winner since Fred Perry etc". And lining up for the inevitable defeat on Sunday in the best manner of German penalty shoot outs etc. to prolong the national agony. If he did win it would be the first Brit winner since Virginia Wade - back in 1977 I think (Jubilee year).
  21. I remember seeing her on a fund raising telethon on PBS about 15 years ago - with John Inman. This was at a time when the 'Served' series was already long gone from UK TV screens - yet in North America it was a cult. Almost like a parallel universe really - same thing happened with Benny Hill. Lots of choking on cups of tea in the UK over the years whever she mentioned her pussy ! RIP.
  22. If he wins, this place will be unbearable for the rest of the year.
  23. Ber extra careful vetting the applicant/s. Lots of horror stories over here of industrial cannabis farming conversions being set up in residential houses, even though the applicant was professional and looked to be an A1 bet. Good luck !
  24. Hope it was good !
