  1. How on earth can you get to be $500m in debt, after making that huge pile of dosh? Words fail me...
  2. Thanks John. Your comment there is going to swing it for me I think.
  3. Tubby Hayes 'Tubbs In NY' (Fontana, stereo)
  4. Belated happy birthday from me too..
  5. Expected but nevertheless very sad news. That first series of 'Charlie's Angels' was a major hit when it came out and her face was everywhere for some years afterwards. Hope she's in peace - RIP.
  6. Shocking news to start the day to. For all his problems, a truly massive star in the 70s-90s in particular. RIP.
  7. Sad to report the recent death of pianist, jazz/musical pundit , jingle tune-smith and UK TV and radio personality Steve Race at age 88. Best known to the UK jazz fraternity for hosting of the first series of 'Jazz 625' on BBC2 back in 1964. A heart attack the following year slowed him down but he was a frequent figure on TV and radio in subsequent years. He even got to set the daily crossword in the 'Daily Telegraph' in recent years. Sorry to see him go - RIP and a good friend of British jazz. Telegraph Obit Here he is introducing Bill LeSage's 'New Directions In Jazz' on 'Jazz 625':
  8. I have the Weston Select and am tempted also with the Carmell. I have pretty well most of it on vinyl though. If nothing else, it would be nice to put it on the I-Pod. Any comments on sound quality for the Carmell Jones?
  9. Reminds me of spinning this one back in the day on my trusty old Dual 604 deck with some colleagues listening in. Lots of head-noddin' and foot tapping through Fortune's pretty and bossa-ish flute solo (not out of place on an MOR album I guess) then perplexed looks of 'WTF is this??' when Pete Cosey's fireworks kicked in. For reasons such as this, I'll always prefer the original.
  10. Wayne Shorter 'Schizophrenia' (BN Liberty blue/white stereo). Signed on the back by the man himself !
  11. Latest nice finds: Jimmy Owen/Kenny Barron Quintet 'You Had Better Listen' (Atlantic blue/green stereo) 'The Ballad Artistry of Maynard Ferguson' (UK CBS, stereo)
  12. Jack Black Roger Black Big Black
  13. Yes, I've tried it too. 'Not available in the UK for copyright reasons'. Maybe G Brown doesn't want us to see it - who was it anyway?
  14. Richard Bock Gerry Mulligan Judy Holiday Cliff Richard Ann Richard Little Richard
  15. I hear you ! Very annoying that we can't take advantage of this one - I've seen the box locally for about £30. Much less of a deal but at least the box can be got reasonably. Probably cheaper than paying the $ and having it shipped from the US I guess.
  16. Nigel West Peter Wright Chapman Pincher
  17. Art Blakey 'Indestructible' (BN NY USA mono)
  18. 'The Essential Miles Davis' early '70s 3LP box set from French CBS. A Henri Renaud production. One LP of the '50s quintet/sextet, one with Miles/Gil and the third with the 60s quintet and Bitches Brew bands. Bonus 45rpm single 'Great Expectations/Little Blue Frog'
  19. Which reminds me of the flyer of a school concert I saw in what was then the Southern bit of West Germany (Lindau) back in the early 80s. Just a local school, nothing special - concert for the kids and parents. Joe plus touring band - about 3-4 DM I missed it by about a week
  20. and I'd like to second that sentiment !
  21. Good to hear. Hang in there ! Unless you work for the Government no-one seems safe at the moment. I'd view it as 'character building'.
  22. Thanks John - Of course, it was the Concord performance, not the Monterey. Too bad about the limitations on usage but within the limitations you managed to include some great footage.
  23. Don Cherry 'Complete Communion' (BN NY USA mono) Johnny Griffin 'The Congregation' (BN 47W63rd DG mono)
  24. Damn - this is very sad news, he seemed timeless. And a great ambassador for the USA within Europe ! RIP
