Academy Records on the East Side and the annex over Williamsburg Bridge, Brooklyn are usually worth a look.

I saw most of the game - the penalty shootout was pretty nerve-racking. Thought Chelsea had it in the bag when Ronaldo missed but United held their nerve. This game certainly lived up to the hype, for once. Poignant too that Man U. have won the trophy on the 50 years anniversary of the tragic Munich aircraft disaster and the 'Busby Babes'. The wounds of that disaster, I recall, were still very real 10-15 years after it happened. Sir Alex also reminds me a bit of Sir Matt Busby, the great manager of that time.

Certainly noticeable on 'Relativity' and 'Impressions Of A Patch Of Blue' but unlike the case of Mr Jarrett, I don't find it in the least bit annoying.

I agree with John on this, but I would say that the second Uptown LP "Look, Stop and Listen" is much better. I still have it it my collection, though I sold "To Tadd With Love." The mention of Johnny Coles gives me a chance to mention one of my favorite Uptown recordings - Johnny Coles & Frank Wess - "Two At the Top", recorded around this same time period. Got all 3 of them somewhere in the racks. Agree that the 'Look, Stop and Listen' is the better of the Dameronia albums. About time I dug them out again.

You're on the slippery slope there, Yves. I like the McLean original Blue Notes so much that I hunted out the lot. Check out 47W63rd DG 'Bluesnik' in particular. I only have 'Bout Soul' on CD though, quite happy with that. Nah, original Blue Notes is passe. It's Ronco, K-Tel, Pickwick etc. all the way for me now.. Now spinning Slide Hampton 'Jazz With A Twist' (London, DG mono). Kicks ass !

No, I have it on good authority that it's 'Live In Seattle' closely followed by 'Interstellar Space' She took part in a BBC radio 'Desert Island Disks' a while back and Coltrane's 'My Favourite Things' was her favourite pick, I seem to recall.

Yes, I too am very sorry to hear the sad news about your wife, Larry. Under those circumstances an aversion to music for some time is very understandable - suspect that given a bit more time it will all sort itself out. Time is a great healer with these things. The only time something similar has happened to me is actually quite a regular occurence - with illness such as bad cold or flu when the head is bunged up. Just can't hear the stuff when I'm full of the bugs, find it damned annoying.

Nothing much I can add to what has been said Jim but sympathetic thoughts and continuing best wishes. My own dad was in intensive care recently (he's out now thankfully) so I can relate.

Oh no, more sad news to start the day - and I was really hoping one day to catch one of his performances but sadly it was not to be. A most dignified musician and, yes - very unique artist with a very fine recording legacy. A few of the Lps will be coming out today - 'Impressions of a Patch of Blue', 'Jazz Impressions of Lawrence of Arabia' and the Steeplechase album done with Sun Ra ('Visions') plus the direct cut Steeplechase 'Divine Revelations'. One of my all-time favourites on the vibes - may he RIP.
