  1. My copy has arrived - Northway have done a really good job. It's slightly smaller than the original version I think and without the cover sleeve but I'm not complaining. The Roger Cotterrell postscript is interesting (with updates on what subsequently happened over the years to the various key names in the text, additional photos plus comments which place the significance of their music within the broader scope of Brit/European jazz to the present time) and the discography itself is at least worth the price of admission. Great stuff !
  2. Colin Milburn Ian Botham 'Sir' Geoffrey Boycott
  3. I think you're right. I wonder what Betty thought? .. or maybe she had left by then and he dug it back out of the storage box.
  4. Frank Foster Orchestra (aka Thad/Mel Big Band in disguise) 'Giant Steps' (Japanese Columbia stereo)
  5. Zoot Sims 'Zoot at Ronnie's' (UK Fontana, stereo) Tubby Hayes 'Down In The Village' (UK Fontana, stereo)
  6. He wasn't even an elected politician but Blair's press secretary, believe it or not. Now 'retired', having written a book and doing the innevitable dinner speech circuit.
  7. Slim Whitman Slim Gaillard Errol Flynn
  8. I don't mind it too much - although it does tend to bump up the fuel bill somewhat. A mere trifle compared to my minimum temperature encountered whilst in Canada. -55C with the wind-chill.
  9. Johnny Smith, CD4. Diggin' this set a lot over the past week.
  10. "Our members have made a total of 691697 posts We have 1853 registered members The newest member is J.A.W. Most users ever online was 322 on Dec 6 2007, 12:21 PM" Is Hans back?
  11. and Richard Cook !
  12. Is that Betty Mabry on the photo? (presumably yes otherwise he would have got an earful - as that photo looks to be from around 1969/70 at the time of 'Bitches Brew'). Looking at the wall display, MIles would have made an excellent Mosaic collector.
  13. RIP - What very sad news to start the day. But his comeback years were great !
  14. and Miss Moneypenny (Lois Maxwell)
  15. Dan - sit yourself on a nice comfy couch with a real good audiophile system and a couple of mono deep groove Blue Note LPs and let us know what you think. Once you're there, there's no turning back IMO.
  16. Stan Tracey Big Band 'Alice In Jazzland' (UK Columbia Lansdowne, stereo)
  17. That looks like a good choice. Or perhaps an entry-level Rega or a Linn Axis (second hand)?
  18. Cecil Payne Mike Osborne Evel Knievel
  19. Good move. It's a great set !
  20. Happy Birthday, Clark Terry ! Some 'Big Bad Band' going on later.
  21. Nucleus 'Elastic Rock' (BGO Records reissue, stereo)
  22. Here's wishing him as much comfort as possible at this time. A real miracle that he made such a great comeback.
  23. Yes, some of her watercolours were on ebay shortly after she passed away, I recall. 'Seamstress' was my recollection of her occupation in later years but I may be wrong. In any case, a sad waste after making that move to N. America but maybe that was he preferred occupation after some time in the NYC clubs, who knows.
