  2. Hmm - obviously fake. I thought there was only one of those.
  3. The session video of this NDR session has been up on 'the other site' and it is great. Owens is definitely playing rotary valve flugel on some of the numbers. Must have been filmed very close timewise to the session Owens did with the Gillespie Reunion Big Band that year at the Berlin Fest.
  4. Wish I hadn't seen this thread. I passed on a good value vinyl original in Mole Jazz's racks some years ago - big mistake I have regretted ever since.
  5. Bobby Hutcherson Mosaic Select CD3. Already one of my fave Selects !
  6. And only a couple of hundred of the 1967 Melodisc originals were produced, I've been informed. I suspect that the majority of those must have been sold through Doug Dobell's shop.
  7. John Lewis 'The Wonderful World Of Jazz' (Atlantic blue/green stereo)
  8. This is an amazing record which has tremendous 'atmosphere' and is full of character thanks to the el-cheapo cheapo East London recording arranged by Doug Dobell which makes it sound like a mid-40s Savoy bop session. Very metallic, with loads of roll-off at the extremes.
  9. John Hurt's commentary on '10 Rillington Place' is the best example I have heard so far. Chistopher Lee and Edward Woodward on the Director's Cut of 'The Wicker Man' are excellent too.
  10. That'll keep you occupied till Xmas Repeat spinning CD4 of the Max Roach set - Newport material with Booker Little.
  11. I like them all. They sound pretty good on those Fantasy '2 LPs on a CD' compilations too (heresy here, I know).
  12. Goldmine says about $20-25 in NM for the Forum and about $30-40 for the Roulette.

  14. That's an OK price for the Woody Herman Roulette 'Roundtable' (should be white label with deep groove and sort of 'spoke' logo on the label). No masterpiece but its entertaining stuff nevertheless.
  15. George Russell 'The African Game' (BN, demo copy) Buddy Rich 'The Man From Planet Jazz' (PRT Records) - recorded live at Ronnie Scotts.
  16. Put my two-peneth in for the Old Town.
  17. Roger Me Mini-Me
  18. Hazel Scott 'Relaxed Piano Moods' (Debut 10") - with Mingus and Max Roach. Says 'Sample Copy' in crayon on the back. Written by either Mingus, Max or Celia I guess?
  19. Ziggy Stardust Thin White Duke Major Tom
  20. Nice . What's the pressing like on side 2? Up for porcy input
  21. Totally agree. One of the best big-band hard bop albums ever.
  22. Max Roach Complete Mercury CD1. Very strong start to this set with great playing by the man himself, Kenny Dorham and Sonny Rollins. Was there ever anyone better at playing 3/4 time than Max Roach?
  23. Arturo Sandoval Al Hirt Wynton
