  1. John Coltrane 'Blue Train' (BN 47W63rd DG mono)
  2. John Coltrane/Wilbur Harden 'Countdown - The Savoy Sessions' (Arista/Savoy 2LPs)
  3. Thanks for raising this one. Arista/Savoy Lps will be dug out - always ben a favourite ! Harden uses amazingly few notes on the flugel but he learned well from Miles Davis in making every one count !
  4. Bill Russo and the London Jazz Orchestra 'Stonehenge' (Columbia Lansdowne mono)
  5. Hmmm - I've drawn a blank on this one !
  6. There wouldn't be a 'Wally' in the runout groove would there? At first I thought this might be one of the 'Limited' MCA reissues from the late 80s/early 90s but from the description it doesn't sound like it.
  7. This book looks really good - skimmed through a copy in a shop recently. Nice big tome and lots of the classics including the Farrell, Benson and Turrentine CTIs. I'm tempted.
  8. 'Normality' returns with the Quebec/Hardee set (LP edition) LP Set
  9. Walt Dickerson 'Relativity' (New Jazz DG mono)
  10. My goodness that's cheap! We bought our (new) 4 bedroom house almost 2 years ago for 194K pounds ($372K); and we're out of Cardiff into an old mining village, now becoming a bit of a commuter town for Cardiff. In Cardiff, the same house (if you could get a comparable one) would cost at least 50% more; but when we were looking around in Cardiff, the houses all had much smaller rooms than this. And Cardiff, of course, is a lot cheaper than most other comparable British cities. MG And that is incredibly cheap compared with London, where £200K gets you nothing.
  11. I've always been curious to hear this -- even brought it up in another thread one time. Has anyone here ever heard this before?? I've heard snippets on the radio and had a somewhat 'neutral' view of it. But really must listen to the whole thing before giving a full opinion. The trouble is that the sublime original causes everything else to pale into significance.
  12. Hank is heading towards $3500 and there's still 8 days to go. Hankster Nice copy though..
  13. Just my thoughts! Seconded !
  14. Ingrid Jensen has done a version of 'Miles Ahead' with Tommy Smith directing the Scottish Jazz Orchestra (I think).
  15. Great session I have a mono white label of this one! (A promotional copy) Indeed it is. I'd forgotten how good it was - and a cleanup under the VPI makes it sound crystal clear ! Mono white label, very nice.
  16. Jimmy Woods 'Awakening' (Contemporary black/green DG stereo)
  17. Back in the day I bought LPs, then switched to CDs back in the late 80s, thinking this would be a permanent switch. Upgraded the turntable and started buying LPs (mainly original) again around 5 years ago and won't switch from this preference. My ears are atuned to vinyl ! Having said that, I like to play CDs when I am in the bath.
  18. There's a Quebec/Hardee set currently up with a 'buy it now' of $1075. Don't miss !
  19. Sonny Simmons 'Rumasuma' (Contemporary white label stereo). With Barbara Donald.
  20. With the famous quote from Don Ellis at the top of the LP !
  21. Yet another sad passing from that early modern jazz generation. There have been far too many of them over the past year - RIP.
  22. Shake Keane 'Dig It' (Decca Phase 4 stereo). With 'Ivor Raymonde' ( ) and his chorus. 60s covers - cheesy but funky.
  23. Cannonball Adderley 'Quintet At The Lighthouse' (Riverside blue label reel/mike DG mono)
  24. New Jazz Orchestra 'Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe' (UK Verve stereo)
  25. Jackie McLean 'Lights Out' (New Jazz mono)
