  1. Clifford Jordan 'Glass Bead Games' (Strata-East 2LP) Always a great pleasure to hear that great quartet with Cedar Walton, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins. Very well recorded too !
  2. Can't say I've ever seen any of these. I wonder if these were pressings from Holland? Pretty sure that they can't have been from the UK side of Phillips ()which were put out by HMV). Maybe the sort of local deal that resulted in those Sparton issues in Canada?
  3. Ah, now CRICKET!!!!! MG
  4. Johnny Coles 'The Warm Sound' - Great sounding Classic Records reissue ! Yusef Lateef 'The Golden Flute' (Impulse stereo original)
  5. I've got a UK LP pressing which I think is on 'Xtra'. Don't think the sound of that is too great either, will dig it out over the weekend.
  6. Graham Collier Septet 'Deep Dark Blue Centre' (Deram stereo)
  7. Miles Davis 'Porgy & Bess' (Columbia 2-eye) Sonny Fortune 'Waves of Dreams' (A&M Horizon) 'Cannonball Adderley Quintet In San Francisco' (UK Riverside mono)
  8. Yes - only on the Universal edition do you get Tal's 'Concert Band'.
  9. Or, as it's Star-Bucks, "Macca Does Money Jungle"
  10. No complaints about the music on the Joe Pass set - it's predictably nice and Mosaic have done a good job with the mastering. The 'Farlow Concert Band' set is great of course - what a bargain that was thanks to 'zwei'. Don't have the Johnny Smith but have heard quite a bit of it and would definitely buy it - its on my list.
  11. Now that he has reached 600, you should see other copies poping up very soon on Ebay... -_- It must be rare. I've never come across the King of this one either. Obviously a completist out there !
  12. Great to hear !
  13. Michael Garrick 'Promises' (UK Argo stereo). Wonderful mid-60s session with Joe Harriott !

    Joe Newman

Probably wisely, from the point of view of Newman's 'domestics'.
  15. But doesn't everyone do that on trips to Tesco?
  16. Wow - this is unexpected news. Wishing them both peace. good wishes and full recovery though. Hank, as per usual, seems to be in fast recovery mode like the Energizer bunny.
  17. Great to see that fine Ray Avery photo posted !
  18. and her Grandma used to date Ronnie Scott !
  19. Mosaic Blue Note Freddie Redd, LPs 2 and 3. A nice listen !
  20. Indeed it is ! Quite a few of the tracks have recently been reissued on the 'Focus Jazz' 2LP set put out by Jazzanova's Sonar Kolletiv label.
  21. She was married to bassist Mark Levinson, of the Paul Bley trio. They wrote a sex book together! Didn't know that ! Did it have illustrations with a man with a beard?
  22. Arnold Ross, Joe Pass etc. 'Sounds of Synanon' (King Pacific Jazz)
  23. 'The Artfull Dodger' has a short excerpt of him soloing on drums with Glenn Miller's AAF Band back in 1944 I think. 'Haunted Ballroom' is the track.
