  1. I remember that photo on the front pages of the newspapers ! If I remember correctly he announced that day a whole series of tax cuts which led to rampant housing inflation and - some years later - the inevitable crash. That's his second wife Therese by the way - Nigella is from the first mariage. I'll try to dig out a picture of his gruesome puppet on 'Spitting Image' if I can find one !
  2. My vinyl and I haven't reached that stage yet... Faithfull? Just sipping a glass of Rioja listening to Ollie Nelson before my Monday evening roast dinner..
  3. 'Oliver Nelson Plays Michelle' (Impulse original stereo)
  4. Well, I didn't know that! Bet Spector never engineered a Wild Bill Moore date! MG New thread? Joe Meek worked for some time as Denis Preston's assistant at Lansdowne, engineering quite a few of their jazz sessions. Then branched off and did his own thing.
  5. Filmed by the BBC for 'Jazz 625' at Kilburn. Wasn't that the night of the infamous Dizzy-Val Wilmer incident?
  6. Her dad was a previous Conservative Chancellor in Mrs T's government. Managed to orchestrate a recession...
  7. Rumour had it that the next set of 'Impressed - Repressed' CD reissues from UK Universal would include this great Harriott/Amancio D'Silva disk. Not substantiated though. This series seeems to be in limbo so don't hold your breath. Not sure if they've even found the master tapes either ! No word about an issue from Dutton Vocalion. They tend to do more of the Decca/Deram/Argo material, not Columbia.
  8. Thinking about it, a mint copy of Joe Harriott 'Movement' would be nice (in my dreams I guess..)
  9. Can't believe I missed the Weston. I have that Blue Note twofer.. (puts gun to head).
  10. Oh dear - Looking at the list, I've got so many of those (Mercury VSOP set, Road Time, How To Succeed') etc. It all sounded so damn familiar.... Excellent selection by the way !
  11. Earlier today: Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond 'Two Of A Mind' (UK RCA Victor deepgroove mono). Superb ! Wayne Shorter 'Speak No Evil' (BN NY USA mono)
  12. You can add me in for a BFT, Mike. Based on current schedule I guess it will be late 2008 - should be drawing my pension by then...
  13. Just on the basis of the two Julian Priesters and the Liebman 'Lookout Farm', they get the thumbs up from me. Agree pretty well with everything in Clem's post - except the Dave Holland bit !
  14. Does a German first press Columbia EMI 'stereo playable mono' of 'Piper' count?
  15. 'Tristano, Konitz, Marsh' LP set whilst I wade into Peter Ind's book on Tristano. Later on - 'George Shearing Capitol Live' LP set.
  16. Charlie Parker/Dizzy Gillespie 'Jazz At Massey Hall' (Danish Debut) Awesome !
  17. One from Dave Pike:
  18. Good grief - I thought I had a problem !!
  19. Don Rendell/Ian Carr 'Dusk Fire' has always eluded me (at a sensible price) as has Yusef Lateef 'Before Dawn' (Verve, although I'm pretty happy with the Verve Elite CD).
  20. Sorry to hear about this. Much admiring of his work at Prestige and late-70s Impulse. for the cover art too. RIP.
  21. Yikes - for a minute I thought 'che' had re-registered.
  22. There's something in the book about 'More' being an incorrect spelling but I see both variants of this in reports of the incident.
  23. I like it too, have the vinyl box on my shelf. Haven't played it for a couple of years so will have to put that right over the next week. This one is under-rated as a Mosaic I think.
