  1. but Charlie Parker liked him... I still remember those 60s radio shows over here with Mitch Miller and his chorus. Went down well with the Mantovani etc. Any Lawrence Welk in that stack?
  2. Clifford Brown 'Study In Brown' (UK Emarcy/Nixa) Karin Krog 'Raindrops, Raindrops' (Crippled Dick Hot Wax)
  3. George VI Boy George Wurzel Gummidge
  4. This afternoon: Donald Byrd 'A New Perspective' (BN NY USA mono, DG side 1) 'Mulligan Meets Monk' (Riverside blue DG mono)
  5. Another wanker in a Mercedes gets his cumupance !
  6. Just watched the DVD - an excellent tribute to the label. Lots of great archive footage of Oscar and the many artists who recorded for MPS, filmed at HGBS's home and studio. Also some very knowledgeable vinyl-heads talking about some of their favourite MPS platters ! The book is also great. It is indeed the hard-back volume with full discography and sleeve art. Text is in German and English. Recommended !
  7. Jackie McLean 'Lights Out' (New Jazz mono)
  8. The best one I've drunk too was in SW Ireland - nectar. The Irish Centre in Toronto used to do a pretty good draught pint too ! It doesn't seem to cross the Irish Sea very well..
  9. Dizzy Gillespie 'Afro' (UK Columbia Clef)
  10. Sam Rivers 'Fuchsia Swing Song' (BN NY USA mono). Critic Chris Sheridan's old copy.
  11. 'Ike Quebec Blue Note 45 Sessions' vinyl set, LP 1. Lovely stuff !
  12. Worth every $180 of its official price when Mosaic released this not so long ago! I think I paid about 230 Euro for a mint set. I wondered at the time if I'd overpaid.
  13. Priceless - great to see some early Coltrane from the 'sheets of sound' period. That must have been taken from one of the JATP tours. Thanks for posting !
  14. The trailer for the movie looks pretty hilarious. 'Come and see my movie or I will be executed'. How does he think them up?
  15. Good grief - it was at a 'sensible-ish' $270 last night with 1 hr 30 to go.
  16. Anyone seen the new 'Borat' movie yet? It's just started at my local. I understand that the Rodeo scene mentioned above features in the movie.
  17. Wayne Shorter 'The All Seeing Eye' (BN 'Wally' Conn reissue). Compares very well with the NY USA.
  18. Generally very good indeed. I would second what Brownie said above. The original LPs (especially deepgroove monos) usually have a bit more depth and better soundstage but Mosaic vinyl tends to be quieter with regards to pressing noise. I'm a fan of the sound of the Tina Brooks set you mention. I would also agree that the Kings are the most natural sounding of the lot.
  19. Lee Morgan 'The Procrastinator' (BN Capitol 'Wally' issue)
  20. If so, that might entice me to buy the Mosaic.
  21. Still recall the thrill of picking up 'Civilization' back at its time of original release on vinyl. Change did at long last seem to be in the air after all those years of fusion, with TW leading his own jazz group. I have all of the sessions on CD and vinyl so won't be picking up the Mosaic. A shame they haven't included 'Tokyo Live' (when will that elusive number ever get reissued? ) Saw the group for free back in 1990 and it was every bit as good as expected.
  22. And still playing very nicely ! Happy Birthday to him and hope he keeps touring.
  23. I do the same. Boxes stored vertically (slightly away from wall to give air circulation) and with LPs, booklets, invoices etc. kept within the boxes. I'm super-careful when opening up the boxes but not quite at the white glove stage yet. When 'cracking open' a set I try to give the LPs one treatment on the VPI, if they haven't already been cleaned. Even new sets benefit from this.
  24. Store in shade. Incidentally, the worst 'yellowing' effect I have had on covers (front and back) has been on LPs purchased from France. Too much sun over there?
