  1. I've still got about 100 of the damn things from Pathe Macaroni ! Time to put them on ebay, perhaps?
  2. Wasn't that the one that got the Parisian scene, sort of 'a la Reach Out' ? I think it just showed some railroad tracks and a train station. That's the one !
  3. Reminder to self to put this Mosaic on the play-list this weekend (most of it is still in shrink-wrap).
  4. Sonny Stitt CD #7. Real class !
  5. From my experience a bit of crackling is sometimes encountered with the VG+ rating but never a skip. Sounds like a 'G' at best. Dontcha just love it when these idiots grade this way.
  6. Wasn't that the one that got the Parisian scene, sort of 'a la Reach Out' ? I've also seen at least one Bennie Green with the different Liberty cover.
  7. 'The Eminent JJ Johnson' (UK Vogue 10" mono DG). UK issue of the BN 10". 'Old Devil Moon' was one of the best performances JJ ever recorded, I think.
  8. Two bands comprising members of London's 'F-IRE Collective' - 'Oriole' (led by flamenco-influenced guitarist Jonny Philips) and the Ingrid Laubrock Quintet, featuring the playings and compositions of this fine player. Both Ingrid and drummer Seb Rochford from the Quintet also featured as members of 'Oriole'. Both of these bands are absolutely unique in style and and their tour of the UK regions (Windsor Art Centre tonight, I believe). Some of the best live jazz currently being produced in the UK from these guys. The Laubrock Quintet is particularly well integrated, with Laubrock and cellist Ben Davis really gelling these days as a front-line team.
  9. Sorry Big Al, can't yet find the Miles Davis (I think it is the Lex Vol 2) but the UK Vogue 10" of JJ Johnson 'The Eminent Vol 1' has the following: Side 1: 1. Jay 2. Time After Time 3. Old Devil Moon Side 2: 1. To Marvellous For Words 2. It's You Or No One 3. Cofee Pot This is a clone of the BN 10", I believe.
  10. I have one of the Miles's and one of the JJs. I'll try to check them out over the next couple of days (when I can find them ).
  11. Horace Parlan 'On The Spur Of The Moment' (BN NY USA mono deep groove)
  12. If you think of the low profile even the great Joe Harriott with his ground-breaking 'Free Form' group had over here in the 1960s, it's not suprising - sadly - that Gaynair got lost in the noise. Lots of reports of him doing regional gigs over the country around that time though.
  13. Yep. 'Marine Intrusion' it was. All Bay Area musicians, I believe.
  14. Clifford - don't hesitate ! I picked my copy up from a shop in Stuttgart (indeed Aggie/Erik from this board met up with me at the shop ). The owner of the shop told me at the time that he'd got a whole job-lot of LPs from Barbara Wojirsh, esteemed cover art designer at ECM. I think this LP was one of the few left over from that batch. She sold up her vinyl lock, stock and barrel before emigrating, apparently.
  15. No, all were issued after the takeover by Liberty. So non of these were pressed at Plastylite. However, Liberty still used NY labels for these titles (except for the Gigolo which was issued much later). Apparantly the labels were already printed, or perhaps they used "blank" (NY) stock labels. For some reissues of the early titles Liberty even used old labels, with the Lexington St. or 47 W 63rd St. address. Non of these have ears, though. Yep - and they have 'RVG' in the runout (as distinct from 'Van Gelder') and often have laminated sleeves with 47W63rd addresses, just to confuse matters further !
  16. So I'm listening to Love, Love for the first time and digging it! Definitely recommended to fans of the Mwandishi band, electric Miles and early Weather Report. The groove on side 1 could go on forever. Guy How is the sound quality of the CD? Wasn't there some word of master tape problems? The LP of this has been a big favourite of mine and as you say, side 1 packs a heck of a groove. 'Polarisation' is just as good - albeit much more introspective in style.
  17. Sounds like an early Liberty-era pressing. The original of this one definitely has the ear. I have a mono one of those though and it sounds GREAT !
  18. By becoming Canadian, one can achieve this !
  19. 'Horace Silver Quintet Vol 3' BLP 5058 (10" BN Lexington DG)
  20. The Horace trios were on BLP 5018 and BLP 5034 (Vols 1 and 2 respectively), which explains why the Quintet 10"s are labelled Vols 3 and 4.
  21. I've got copies of the original 10" Lex BLP 5058 and 5062 LPs (5062 signed by Horace). Track order is: 5058: Side 1: 1. Room 608 2. Creepin' In Side 2: 1. Doodlin' 2. Stop Time 5062: Side 1: 1. Hippy 2. The Preacher Side 2: 1. Hankerin' 2. To Whom It May Concern
  22. 'Poetry and Jazz In Concert 250' (Argo 2LP). With the Rendell/Carr Quintet.
  23. A happy birthday to Marcello !
